I am pregnant with twins, 21 weeks along - this is also my second pregnancy. I live an hour away from the hospital I deliver at. That makes me nervous because I have heard that labor with twins (or even your 2nd baby) can be much faster. Anyone have any experience???

you want to hear my story? it's kinda long but i'll try to sum up.... my 1st 4 kids were born at 42 weeks. then i was preg with twins. on saturday night at 36 weeks i had sort of contractions but i said, nah, it;s just braxton hicks. then all day sunday i had small contractions. and i said, nah, it's just braxton hicks. they didn't hurt. then sunday at about 5 pm i called my husband and i said, you know, i think i might have to go to the hospital today so when you get a chance, come home no rush though. then i said to myself , if i have to go to the hospital today i guess i should get everything done first. so i cooked, put in a laundry showered, feed and put my kids to bed, gave my husband a haircut, and then i was having stronger contractions, waited from him to get out of the shower and for the babysitter to come and THEN went to the hospital. then hospital is about 30 minutes away. OH! i forgot to mention that i was scheduled for a C-SECTION in 2 weeks , because BOTH THE BABIES WERE BREECH! anyway, the whole way to the hospital the contractions were getting stronger and stronger and people were looking at me funny how i was standing in my seat and not sitting and finally we got to the hospital, i walked in (very quickly) they checked me said, active labor, staright to the operating room(remember? it's supposed to be a csection) and then , they gave me the spinal and just as they were about to slice me open...... out popped baby #1!!!!! feet first!!!! let me tell you- that dr was pretty surprised. and since baby#1 already came out they figured it would be dumb to make the csection for no reason, so he pulled out baby #2 also feet first. and so that is my story. so to answer your question, in my case twin birth was quicker and definately earlier than a single birth. good luck to you!

I don't know about twin births, but I do know that typically labour gets shorter and faster each time. My son was 21 hours of labour, 20 minutes of pushing. Daughter #1 was 6.5 hours of labour, no pushing (she just kinda slipped out - I went from 4-10 cm dilated in about 16 minutes). Daughter #2 was 5 hours of labour, 1 push. Daughter #3 was about 3 hours of labour, again only 1 push (though with her I was in labour on and off for about a week - each time I saw my Dr she'd say "see you tonight" and then contractions would stop cold, which is hell on an already emotional woman!).

Well, I don't know if it was because of my pregnant being twins or the fact that it was my 3rd full term pregnancy BUT, I started to go into labor around 4:30. Waited to the labor to be more constant since the timing was all over the place and I didn't want to be sent home with false labor since that happened to me before and they said not to come in until they were about 5 minutes apart or at least constant on the time. Anyway, my contractions went from about every 15 minutes apart to 3 minutes instantly. We hauled booty to the hospital and when they checked me, I was at 9 1/2 cent. The whole thing from the very first cramping contraction to actual birth was about 10 hours. My first time took over 36 hours so this was very fast.

I was induced for both my labors. My first was a singleton and her labor/delivery took 19.5 hrs. The twins took 6 hrs. It was much quicker for me.
