I am 29 weeks and at 26 weeks I was measuring 27 weeks. I had an appointment yesterday and I am measuring 34 weeks but I have not gained any weight in 3 weeks. They scheduled an ultrasound for two weeks but I am freaking out. What could cause me to be measuring that far ahead. Please any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is this your first baby? Sometimes it is just because of a stretched uterus from a earlier pregnancy. It could also be a sign of a large baby, sometimes overweight mother's measure larger, inaccurate conception date, a lot of amniotic fluid, posterior positioning (baby's position can make uterus appear larger) or multiples. Have you had any u/s yet? because they should have picked up multiples already. Good luck!

This is baby number two but my son is 6 years old. I had an ultrasound at 22 weeks and they didn't see anything else but he was not very cooperative. The doctor seems to think that the date would have to be off for him to get that big in three weeks, but I don't think its off. I had a cysts on my ovaries that ruptured the month before I conceived so I am so confused. Thank you so much for your reply it is nice to know it could be several possibilities. The doctor wasn't very helpful he just said wait until the ultrasound in two weeks.. ahhhhh..

It would be near impossible to miss a twin at 20 weeks. I know some twins are found by then because it was the mother's first u/s but I have never heard of one being missed. Not saying it is impossible, but highly improbable. An u/s of twins at 20 weeks has so many legs, h/b's and pulses, arms and things like that, it looks like there are more than two! Around 34 weeks, I was measuring around 44 weeks. A good 10 weeks ahead is pretty normal. By the time I had my twins, I was measuring about 52-54 weeks and I was 38 weeks. With my singleton, she was measuring large and they suspected she was just big, at least 8 lbs. She was only 6 lbs-9oz and I had a lot of fluid. Good luck and keep us posted!

Well, hopefully it is nothing to worry about. Make sure your OB knows about the cysts because Fibroids are another reason to have a large uterus but they are not uncommon. Good luck with everything!
