Currently I am 10 wks 6 dys. IWhen I was 8 wks and 6 dys, I had an ultrasound done and the doctors say twins. Although one was smaller than the other, they both had heartbeats. So today when I went to the doctor to have another ultrasound, they only saw one baby. The doc said that it is the vanishing baby syndrome. Has this happened to anyone? Could the docs be wrong? I haven't had any signs or symptoms of a miscarriage. I'm sooo confused.

Most women won't have any symptoms with VTS. In fact, if it weren't for early u/s most women would never even know they were pregnant with twins at one all. Because of early u/s, they now believe that 1 in 8 pregnancies start off as twins but most end up as a singleton birth. VTS is just what it says. The twins vanishes without a trace and is absorbed into the body. I had VTS at 11 weeks with my first twin pregnancy. The only reason I even knew I was pregnant with twins is because unlike most VTS cases, I started to bleed and went in for an u/s and that is when they found one baby that was fine and the other, though the same size, had no h/b. An u/s a couple of weeks later showed that the baby with no h/b was gone. As for the DR making a mistake, anything is possible but since you are almost in the second trimester and he knew to look for the other baby, the chances are not high. I am so sorry you have to go through this.

I lost my dd's twin at 6 weeks. I had a gush of bright red blood and then a few hours of spotting. I went in for an u/s the next day and saw 2 sacs, 2 fetal poles, and 1 hb. My body reabsorbed everything else. Lots of women dont have spotting, your body will reabsorb anything that is left in there, or it will be pa__sed when you deliver your littl one. I think that since you did see a hb in the 2nd sac at 8 weeks, it would be really HARD to miss the hb at 10+ weeks. Im currently pg with twins again and baby B's sac was smaller at the 9 week u.s but im not 21 weeks and they are both the same sized babies...HUGS..keep us posted

With mine I only had a gush of blood and that was it..Your body will reabsorb the twin most times. Sometimes you might bleed for a day or 2.. I think if you bleed for more than that and its more than just spotting or brown. I would call your dr..
