Hold the criticism, I’ve heard it all. This forum is a place for those who are choosing to take u/p or prescribed clomid for the purpose of having multiples – to chat about their experiences without the never-ending feedback, of how “negligent and foolish” we are all being. I’m on cd 8 and have taken clomid cd 2 - 50mg, cd 3-6 - 100mg, and cd 7 - 50mg. I started mucinex on day 7. I’m not taking aspirin because I’ve researched that it can actually increase your chances of miscarriage. I am however planning to use Pro-gest progesterone cream 3 days after my LH surge throughout the first trimester. I also read several studies on progesterone. I found that the over-the-counter rub-on creams with at least 450mg of USP Progesterone per ounce is as equally absorbed into the bloodstream as prescribed Prometrium 200mg taken orally. My side effects have been very manageable, just a nagging headache most of the day (every day that I’ve been on the clomid) and a bit of nausea on and off. Please post. I’d love some cycle buddies, or any success stories.

Good Luck on this cycle. I am gonna take a combination of rx and u/p clomid starting in July. Today I am on cd31 so we are not exactly cycle buddies but you can count on me for support!

hi, i have only posted a couple of times. it's encouraging to hear all the stories here. i have a question about taking clomid. i know this isn't the wisest decision but i'm taking u/p clomid this cycle for the 1st time and i'm wondering if it's better to take it day 3-7 or 5-9. is there a difference? also i have a long cycle [about 33-35 days] so i don't know if that makes a difference? i maybe ovulate around day 21 or 23 [according to months of ovulation sticks]. also, i've heard about robitussin or baby aspirin or mucinex? what do they do? can someone provide some basic pros and cons? i'm hoping to have twins. they run in our family, i.e. my dad is a twin. i'm 30 almost 31, and my husband is 35. i don't want to have kids too late...we've been ttc for almost a year now! thanks for all the varying perspectives so far. any thoughts would great. gl and bd to all!

Hi haveboxerwantbaby I chose to do 3-7. From what I read the earlier you take it ( 2-6) you have more eggs but thtere are weeker. the later you take it (5-9) you have stronger eggs but less of them. So I figure If I take it inbetween I should have the best of both! I dont have U/P. I fibbed to my doctor to get it and he gave me 100mg. Ordered days 3-7. The nurse said he has a good result with the 3-7. I did get pregnant using 50mg 5-9 with my DD who is now 17 months

thanks a bunch mzwest83! you're the first one to comment back. you're soooo helpful! so i start tomorrow, and i'm nervous, but excited, too. i think. i read up in some fertility books at barnes and noble about robitussin and musinex, so i'm going to hit those as well this cycle. i also read that egg whites are a nice lubricant to use to help the sperm travel...that may not be hostile to sperm? is this true? i feel like the baby oil we use may be a problem too. is exercise recommended or allowed while taking clomid?

I'm so glad ladies are finally posting. Welcome to all, and I hope we all soon conceive. Haveboxer, I've done quite a bit of research on clomid and conceiving twins, and here's what I learned. First of all: I know a lot of women use baby aspirin to help with blood flow, and the lining of the uterus. But from the research I've done (including a study on just this topic) the doctors involved in the study found a higher incidence of miscarraige with the women who took the aspirin. Also, they found that any ibuprofen or aspirin taken (even at the beginning of the cycle for menstrual cramps) remained in a woman's system and could effect miscarraige rates. The mucinex is what I'm currently taking, because it has extended release tablets that only need to be taken every 12 hours, instead of robitussin which is much more often (and tastes horrible - maybe they have a pill form though). The mucinex is to increase your cervical mucus and make a nice place for sperm. You're supposed to take the mucinex 600mg extended release tablets twice a day, beginning 5-7 days before you expect ovulation to 3 days after your temperature has been up (or 3 days after you're sure you've ovulated). And yes, egg whites are great, that's what the mucinex will help with, because the estrogen increase brought on from the clomid dries you up. Also on the clomid. I've found that several women actually take clomid for 7 days such as: 2-8, to create more eggs in the beginning and keep them stronger in the later days. Now I'm not recommending that anyone do this, but I know it's been done. And I just did it. I'm on cd 13 and I took clomid cd 2-8 with a mix of 50mg & 100mg doses (I'll have to let you know if it works for multiples, the side effects were mild, and I don't feel my ovaries overstimulating). Also, clomid is taken by male body builders for 30 days in a row, granted they're only taking 10-25mg doses, but still...30 day doses. Don't use baby oil though, you want a water-based not oil-based lubricant. Oils can create the perfect breeding ground for infection. Try astro-glide...I love it (and it's pretty cheap at the grocery store). Another research study I found was that more women conceive twins in June and July more than any other month. I read as much research as I could on this topic, and it's because of the pineal gland in the brain. The more sunlight (or artificial sunlight) the gland soaks in, the more it releases reproductive hormones that trigger the pituitary gland and sometimes causes hyperovulation. There was also a study done on this topic, where they tested women by having a light bulb that mimics sunlight (not a tanning bed bulb) set on a timer in their bedroom. It would flip on every morning around 5 or 6 am while they were still sleeping, then they were encouraged to soak in as many rays as they could throughout the day, and again the bulb would flip on again in the evening until bed. The ideal was to recieve 16 hours of sunlight (combined with artificial sunlight) per day. The study found that the increased light did increase the chances of twinning by approximately 10%. Side note: a side effect of clomid can be brown spots on your skin from sun exposure, so use a lot of sunscreen when soaking in the rays. I'm also planning to use progesterone cream 3-4 days after I'm sure I've ovulated. I have a short (10-12 day) luteal phase which I'm hoping to fix, and the progesterone should help the lining of my uterus quite nicely, as opposed to aspirin. But only use 100% USP natural progesterone cream (Pro-gest or Fem-gest), the synthetics can have side effects on you and the fetus. The progesterone has to be at least 450mg of USP progesterone per ounce to be effective (which another study I've read found that Pro-gest over the counter was as equally absorbed into the blood stream as perscription Prometrium 200mg. But if you start the progesterone you have to use it for the entire first trimester. Stopping could bring on miscarraige. SoReady, good luck to you. Please keep me posted. MZwest what is estradiol? Is your hope mutiples, then? Good luck to you all. I haven't O'd yet, but it should be within the next couple of days.

I apologize for my extraordinarily long post, but I wanted you to know everything I've researched. Also, I forgot another research study. This was done a smaller scale where they tested clomid cd 1-5 and cd 5-9. Out of the women who took it cd 1-5, 25% of them conceived. Out of the women who took it cd 5-9, none of them conceived. Again, it was a small study, I believe it was 24 women in each group...but still, 25% verses 0%. Also, the study did not say whether any of the pregnancies from cd 1-5 resulted in multiples. But that's encouraging for early cycle dosing of clomid.

Estradiol is from what I have read it helps your body produce more eggs, helps with dryness ( although I am unsure how much it helps because I have notice a increase but will not "O" until the 28th ish and will be done by the 23rd) and helps your thin your uterus lining . I am unsure, need to make my desision today if I should take mucinex or use preseed. With my DD I used both to be on the safe side!I will prb end up just getting pressed. I have heard about an posted about the egg whites but I just cant see me putting raw eggs up there. Is Astro glide sprem friendly? Thanks for the information! I think I will be heading out side today! i also am trying for a boy using the shuttles method.

Mzwest83 - May 20

I just read online there is something like Preseed that they sell at walmart.i am going to check it out today when I do my shopping.

haveboxerwantbaby - May 20

wishful thinking thank you for all the words of wisdom. i don't mind long posts at all! i'll check out preseed and astroglid and get mucinex for next week. i'll spend some good time in the sun! do you suggest we BD everyday or every other day? when we approach O? this is really encouraging! i've been struggling so much, and it has felt incredibly lonely trying to navigate this without anyone who really understands it.

Hello Ladies! DH and I are just completed out first round of Clomid 100mg. I took them cd 3-7 and just got my +OPK yesterday, cd 14. Today is cd 15 and I was woken up at 7am with sharp O pains. I always get sharp O pains but what's different about these is they are on both sides and simultaneous. I tried to do some research to find out if this is normal or not but have only been able to find women complaining of O pains on both sides in the same cycle that alternate. First left, then right or vice versa. Have any of you experienced the simultaneous pains? DH and I started BDing last night, though I think he went overboard b/c he insisted on climaxing twice. I explained to him that that will just lower his sperm count but...well you know men. We are trying for twins on u/p clomid but under direction of an OB/GYN. I'm not sure if the O pains mean I'm ovulating out of both ovaries or if it's just an effect of the Clomid. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and how do you start a new thread? I wanted to post this in a new one but I can't seem to figure out how. Thanks ladies and baby dust and sticky baby beans to all :D

Haveboxer, I missunderstood you. I thought you meant when your cm was like egg whites...that's when it's great. I've never heard about using an actual egg white. That sounds like a bad idea, I don't know though. Also, about bedding. I think it depends on your husband. If he's under about 33/34 I bet you could do it every day for about 6-8 days from around 3 days before O to 3 days after. But be sure to start on day 7/8 or so with at least every other day. There's also something about how hairy a man is. I know it sounds cliche, but the thicker his beard and the daily 5 o'clock shadow usually means they're a little more fertile. If your husband is like my brother-in-law, who only needs to shave once every 4 days -- then I would recommend bedding every other day. With my other children we bedded every day, and it always worked. This time my husband is almost 38 however, so we've done and are planning to do BD on 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19. I should O around 15. Trying4twins, I'm on day 14 and I also have pains on both sides simultaneously. I also cramp every month during O, but this is stronger than that. I'm hoping it's because I've made a mature egg in each ovary...I don't know though. But my best friend has done IVF many times, where she is on gonal F shots. Her ovaries are always stimulated to the point of making approx. 18 eggs and hers have never ruptured. The doctors just tell her to "take it easy" for a few days and use a heating pad. And on clomid (which is far less powerful than gonal F), I don't think there's anyway I could have made anywhere close to 18 eggs; so I suspect "taking it easy" will shortly fix the pain. My friend also has developed cycsts from the gonal F, but again, they've gone away on their own from "taking it easy". I think there's a lot of women trying to scare u/p clomid takers by saying we will rupture our ovaries, when I believe the risk is rather small. MZwest, I don't know if Astro-glide is sperm friendly. I'd love to see what you find out about the Wal-mart stuff. I'm loving this post...everyone helping, nobody chastising. Good luck to all.

trying4twins, you start a new thread by clicking up on the right-hand side under where you login. There's like a blue, red, and green thing in the box and it says "click here to ask your question."

wishful.thinking, I've been doing lots of research (like you) and I found that approximately 15 percent of all fraternal twin pregnancy had an egg from each ovary. The pain I'm experiencing isn't severe enough to be a ruptured ovary so I doubt that is the case. I read that it is the type on pain that will make you fall to your knees and cry. I personally was slightly worried because I have no problem with fertility or ovulating. I am a bit irregular, yes (cycles range from 28-35 days) but I always ovulate. I am trying for twins because DH and I always wanted 5 children. Currently we have 3 DD's who are 5, 3 and 21 months. This unfortunately is going to have to be my last pregnancy due to uterine issues, so we are hoping for twins (with at least 1 DS). I too am glad that there is no one on this thread who is chastising. There are too many who judge out there, not thinking that perhaps those of us who are taking u/p Clomid may have good reasons for it.

trying4twins2 - May 20

I also wanted to tell all that I have a high acidity level, which causes me to have hostile mucous. With my DD's, I used PreConceive which is very much like PreSeed and it worked beautifully. All 3 of my girls, and a total of 9 pregnancy's were conceived in 3 cycles or less. Just wanted to throw that in there.

SoReady - May 20

trying4twins - Just in case you didnt know . . . highly acidic mucous tends to kill off male sperm being that they are weaker then female sperm. Being that you are going for a DS I would try to balance out those levels. I have heard that there are different things that you can eat or drink that will do it. Caffeine tends to help reduce acidic levels. I am trying for a DD so in June I will be removing all caffeine from my diet.
