How Do You Know The Condom Broke

i am clearly a bit ignorant in this area. since the condom tends to be icky anyway, how does one know if it broke or leaked. i feel like i have all these pregnancy symptoms (including 17 days passed my af date and brown discahrge a week prior to the date), but my husband was wearing a condom. is it possible to be pregnant?

Sure, anything is possible. Have you taken a test?

not yet, i fear disappointment... i want to be pregnant but wonder how it is possible if he wore a condom. i should hopefully take a blood test tomorrow morning. i am praying for a positive result!

If you want to get pregnant, wouldn't it be best if he didn't wear the condom?? Or is he not wanting to start a family yet and you're secretly hoping something happened to the condom?

you got it kitcat... at one point he did not want a family at all, which naturally caused a lot of tension. we talked things through and decided we'll wait to get pregnant (hopefully time would alleviate his fears, God willing). it was acutally beginning of sept when we had a huge fight about it and i was totally stressed but i had a normal period during the month and things have been much better since. we are taking the "God path"... just praying for God's guidance, basically. when this brown discharge thing happened and my period is now late by over 2 weeks, i am praying that it's God's way of giving us a "thumb's up". he doesn't know yet and i don't want to freak him out if it's nothing, but i am really praying and hoping that i am pg, God willing!

no one really mentioned anything about how to tell if the condom broke. anyone know?

ok...in my case...a few years back, before I was married to my hubby, we had an oppsie and the condom broke. It was VERY obvious that the condom broke!!! I don't know how or why it broke but it was split on the end of it. Pretty stressfull for us both, as neither of us wanted to have a child. Thankfully we got lucky and didnt get pg from it!!!

yeah, you were lucky lea that you guys didn't get pregnant... it didn't seem like any of the condoms we used broke because they are always wet. but i just feel like i may be pg (that could partly be b/c i want to be pg). i actually just ran to the bathroom thinking i af was here and i was hoping it wasn't af and fortunately, it wasn't. but of course, that doesn't mean anything until i get my blood test all my symptoms could all mean absolutely nothing.

I hvae to absolutely agree with you...we were very lucky not to get pg!!! Thank God...neither of us were ready to be parents! I was 19 when that happened. So that was like 7 years ago...ok a little more than a couple...lol. (hubby and I have been together since 1997...so going on 10 years. Married 4) And now, we are TTC and this is driving me nuts! I feel like sometimes I have symtoms of being pg. and end up getting AF. Real bummer! I do think that sometimes I kinda "find" reasons to believe that I may be pg!! making a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak!! lol (fingers crossed for this month though!!!)

Do you have s_x only once a month? Any kind of contraceptive mishap the last week of September would have been on target. A small leak in a condom might not have been noticeable to either of you, though a major tear is unmistakable. Test soon first morning pee. Good luck!

I do not understand how people have this preconception that condoms are this mystical birth control thats 100% unless it breaks. Condoms have microscopic holes in them, hence making them not foolproof against STD's, but condoms are less then 60% effective and thats in great condition. your condoms could have a larger hole unaware to you. Good luck that things work out the way you want.

tyler0323 - October 31

i thought condoms where a bit more than 60% effective? anyway, hubby or anyone wearing the condom should be able to tell if the condom broke, they are wearing it, and they take them off.

Judi Sarah - October 31

thanks for all the info and wishing me luck!... grandpa viv, we have s_x more than once a month i think that's why don't always remember the dates and we must have had s_x at the end of september... downbutnotout, kinda did think condoms were mystical birth control that are only ineffective when they break/leak, that's why i mentioned i was ignorant in this situation, haha. tyler, i read that they are more than 60% effective (i forgot the actual number).

This was literally my first question re taking a test.

If your partner's condom had broken during sex, it might have been too tight. Your partner could probably use a better fit next time and this is very important. You can show him the below link, he can use it easily to find his perfect condom size in three quick steps.
