How will I know what my contractions feel like?

you will feel a really strong pain in your uterus and then in your pelvis area and it will also feel like a big a rubber band around your belly and lower back. And believe me you will know with all this information that you are in labor.

I am preg. and this will be my first, but my girlfreind who had 2 children told me that I should watch out for "False Labor", which is when the contractions are the same kind of pain and they don't get worse, it's called Braxton-Hicks. I'm not sure about the first word, sorry.

Sue's answer above is correct, and the way for you to determine between false labour and the real thing is if you walk around your pain goes away, then that is a practice contraction (false labour) or if it is not consistent. The real thing will not go away and will be consistent.
