I am a teacher. My husband and I had already decided that I would stay home for a couple of years after we had the baby. My baby is due in Sept. As you know a new school year begins in Aug. If I don't go back to work, my insurance coverage will stop. My husband can't add me to his plan b/c open inrollment has just ended. Does anyone know any insurance solutions?

mm.I don't know. What state do u live in? I knoe here in california they have a blue cross program called AIM (mothers infants..something like that) that covers pregnant woman that fall in a certain income brackett. It also depends on how many people are in your family, I think. Call your local health and human services agency and see if there is anything you might possibly qualify for. That would be my first step. Good luck!

Your husband can add both you and the baby to his insurance under the "Life Change" claus but it has to be within 30 days after the baby is born. (If you live in the US). You should be able to COBRA your existing insurance for the one month lapse from August to Sept. - it will cost you a few hundred dollars to do so but if you save now you should have time to cover that one month payment. You both need to talk to your respective benefits people.

Gretta is right. Check with Human Resources - they should be able to help you.

Hi imamommy
Your husband CAN you because you will lose your benefits. Open enrollment allows changes once a year, but if your spouse or children lose benefits, he can add you at anytime. HR at his job will just ask him to provide somethign showing that your benefits have been terminated :)
