Class For Breastfeeding

I am 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I plan on br___tfeeding the baby. My doctor has suggested that I sign up for a br___tfeeding class. I'm just curious for those of you who have br___tfed, do you think this is necessary? Did anyone not take a class and which they would have? I know that the hospital where I'll be delivering has a lactation specialist on hand after delivery to give guidance so I just wondered if the class was necessary. I want to do what will be best for me and the baby.

I think the more you find out about b___stfeeding before you have to do it, the better off you are. The LC at the hospital can only spend a limited amount of time with you. Take the cla__s, buy a book, contact La Leche League.

Do yourself a big favour and TAKE THE CLASS! Breastfeeding isn't as easy as it looks believe me. After you have your baby you're going to be very tired and if you don't know what you're doing right away it may dishearten you. Learn as much as you can before your baby comes. As far as lactation consultants, they come in say " don't supplement" and it's off to the next room. I didn't even know who the hell that guy was until he left so he was a big, fat help. And what's up with the male lactation consultant? I don't have a problem with a male ob/gyn but I wasn't too comfortable with a male L/C.

I would recommend the cla__s. With my first pregnancy, it was covered briefly in the childbirth cla__s and I ended up using that La Leche rep to help me with ALL of my b___stfeeding problems. The hospital I am going to deliver in this time offers what is supposed to be a great cla__s. I even thought about taking it, even after having nursed my first, but I have been too lazy to sign up and go... Just make sure you have a good contact person who you can call during the first weeks. La Leche or the hospital education office are places to look if you don't attend the cla__s.

Thank you all so much for your input. I'm going to go ahead and sign up for the cla__s - I don't want to feel like I'm in the dark when I start the nursing and it sounds like I definitely won't regret taking time for the cla__s. Thanks again!
