Small Nipples Can I Breastfeed

I have small nipples and my doctor said I will be able to br___tfeed.He said to pull on them, to make them bigger, during my pregnancy. My mother had to use a shield with me. I am concerned that I won't be able to br___tfeed. Do the nipples get larger when a baby sucks on them, or me pulling on them for that matter? Does anyone have experience with small nipples and br___tfeeding sucessfully or how to enlarge your nipples?

i have really small nipples *blushes*. My mom gave up trying to b___stfeed me when i was a baby. My baby is a week to 4 mths now and so far, he has been on b___stmilk with a few exceptions during the first month. I never got a latch on til he was a mtha nd a half. I just couldn't get him to latch on even with the 2 lactation specialist at my hospital and with the help of almost all the nurses at my ward. The trick is to persevere and try and try and TRY. And especially for women with smallnipples, make sure your b___sts are not engorged. Do start pumping even if your baby doesn't latch on; to get your milk supply going. Oh ya, I tried the shield but it didn't work for me.

to wenling: Thank you for your response. My mother told me that her b___st got so tight that the nipple she ahd kind of dissapeared. Did that happen to you too? I wonder if women with small nipples should pump a little before b___stfeeding to make the breat more flexible. Thanks again.

ya. had bad bad engorgement on the 4th day, and nipples were kinda pulled flat. but even before my milk came in, my baby would try but cos the nipple was so small, he couldn't keep it in his mouth. it keeps slipping out. So what i did later was to try getting him to latch on first before i attempted a full feed on my b___st; and a softer b___st is always easier(cos while my nipples lack in size, i made up for it by kinda holding my b___st with 4 fingers below and the thumb on top to compress it slightly, to give baby something to suckle ). When he got the hang of it, he can feed even when i'm pretty engorged now. good luck!
