I just gave birth to my son 2 weeks ago and determined that I don't want to br___t feed any longer. He takes formula very well but the thing is that I stopped cold turkey I don't want to pump or express any because I want it to dry up anyone no how long it will take for engorgement to go away I'm in a lot of pain!

You'll experience pain for two, maybe three days and then it will decrease. You might want to use cold compresses in your bra.. lactation consultants suggest putting cabbage leaves in the freezer and using those in your bra. You can also wet down nursing pads, freeze them and use those until the pain subsides. Good luck, it's uncomfortable, but you will get through it - we all do!

Try cabbage leaves. It sounds funny but works. Chill the cabbage in the fridge and put 1-2 large leaves on each b___st. Change the leaves every hour or two when they get warm.

eat alot of parsley too.

try a nipple shield. there won't be as much stimulation and your supplywill decrease. it worked for my friend and it was recommended by a lactation cons.

i need help with a similar subject.i need to start weaning my 3 week old- at first i just gave him fomula once a day but he didnt poop for3 days so the ped. told me to tryb this laxative, i did and it worked well i continued w/ the 1 bottle a day aand it happened again. so my mom told me to try mixing 4 oz of b___stmilk w/ 2 oz formula, i've been doing that for 2days now and he is constipated again! he screams! did this happen to u? is there anyway to prevent it?

b___st milk is a natural laxative, while formula causes constipation due to the higher amount of iron and starches. this will pa__s, don't worry. if you stayed on b___st milk solely, you would notice watery stools and more of them.. whilehe formula would have more solid stools and less of them per day. this causes some women to reach for formula by age 3 months to avoid the mess, but the baby really does benefit from your milk in the rst 6 monthd to a year, so stick to what you feel is best.

I started giving my son formula at 1 week and he's never been constipated.

Nikki: I have an 8 week old and it took me about 3-4 days to not be in pain, and about 1 week for the leaking and occasional pain to go away. Good Luck - I know the pain in horrible. Wear the tightest sports bra you have and wear it 24-7!!!

for the constipation either pick a formula with a little less iron or (check with your doc) 1 oz of pear juice per month of age 1 time a day or plain water will hepl loosen it. of a drop or two of mineral oil in 1 bottle a day but chek with the doc first

Your babies ammune system depends on your b___st milk.. Breast feed as long as possible . it is painful but after the first couple weeks it becomes way easier..it gets way easier as your milk settles too , imagine not having to heat upa bottle at 3:00 am just wip it out ,jsut the temp they like....... so much easier.. the more he sucks the more you make, same as pumpin , you think your going to get rid of it by pumping it out, what you are doing in fact is making more..get support from your local heath nurse.. theres also dry up pills you can take , if your really serious about taking baby off the b___b.. good luck.......
