I am going to br___tfeed this baby, but I didn't br___tfeed my first (15 years ago) and had a terrible time with engorgement and leaking. My mom told me that back in the 1970s, she didn't br___tfeed and the doctor gave her a shot and so, she didn't have to deal with the hassle. My question is, what ever happened to the shot? I did an internet search, and didn't find anything about this old school tactic, and one site even said that there is no way to stop milk production if you don't plan to br___tfeed, (other than br___t binding and expressing to relieve pressure only). Based on my Mom's experience, I know this is a lie, but what happened to the shot? Has anyone here ever received this mystery shot (which I think is just a huge dose of estrogen), and what was your experience like? Has anyone ever wanted the shot but been dissuaded by medical professionals, and what were the reasons for discouraging this? I have a theory that any risks this shot has, have been outweighed by today's br___t-milk-is-best att_tude, and that women who just can't br___tfeed for whatever reason, have to suffer the h__l of pain, engorgement and leaking. Anyhow, thanks in advance for your input!

They stopped using it. I think I heard because of side affects it caused. Not sure whether that is true or not. Your OB would be able to answer this. I heard cabbage leaves help with the pain.

The shot has been abandoned because of its side effects. These included blood clots, stroke, etc. Similar to the side effects of high-dose estrogen birth control pills. Apparently, the shot wasn't always effective either. A huge dose of estrogen is dangerous. So the risks outweigh the benefits.
