My Son Hates The Bottle

Blake has been screaming the few times I offer him a bottle too. Then I realized that I was using the same bottles I have had since he was born, which all have a stage one nipple. I bought some stage 3 nipples and he takes the bottle fine now. Maybe your son is used to a faster flow as well - a stage one nipple is too much work.

To "Boys Love Boobs"- the world average may be 4 years old, but why do you think that is? Could it be that in poorer countries they do not have enough food to go around and moms have to keep bf'g to give their kids some sort of nutrition? Also, a lot of women have to return to work? How else do you suggest they feed their children? (Sorry I do not have any advice to the topic question- my baby is only 3 weeks old, but I could not help but comment.)

My 4-month-old won't take a bottle either. I am back to work for a half day and she goes 5-7 hours every morning without eating while I'm gone. She starts day care in January. I'll be nursing her over the lunch hour, but fully don't expect her to take a bottle then, either. She'll be 5 mos. then, so hopefully she'll take a cup or eat some food (I have started her on rice cereal, so she can have something to eat in a pinch). My first didn't take a bottle until she was 3 months and started day care and on the second day, got hungry enough... I guess I have stubborn, b___b-loving kids.

Some babies just know what is best for them. They need the body contact that goes along with b___stfeedidn. It's not just a food source, it's a relationship. Don't leave a young baby unless it's absolutely necessary. Take the baby with you to do your shopping, it's good for them to be stimulated this way. Enjoy this time when your baby wants and needs you. It doesn't last forever. You will wish for this special closeness 10 years down the road.
