i'm not supplying enough milk for my 12 week old. he's a big baby, and i just don't have enough milk. i always end up having to give him formula because he just sucks me dry. i've tried to get my supply up, but nothing seems to work. i'm considering giving up on br___t feeding because he has formula fo at least half of his feedings already... what should i do?

What makes you think you do not have enough milk? Nursing is supply and demand. The more formula you give baby, the less milk you make. Presuming you want to keep bf, I would quit the formula and nurse your little one often. It will take a few dayd but your supply should go back up. Check out this site for more info: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-supply.html (the only dash is between low-supply) Good luck!!

Has he been losing weight, not pooping/peeing regularly, etc? And are you eating/drinking enough as well? Here is another thought. Do you think he is sleeping enough? I have read that a lot of bf moms think their babes are hungry and that their supply is drying up, when in actuality their babies are overtired. Is this a possibility for you guys at all?

well he sleeps from 9-2 eats then 2:30-6 eats then 6:30-8 then he's awake, he takes naps through out the day too. i don't eat like that pryamid (sp?) says too and i got chewed out at wic for it, but i don't skip meals and i think i eat pretty good. he's not losing weight, but there have been times when it seems like he isn't pooping as much as he should be so i don't know...

as long as he has 6-8 wet pampers a day and isn't losing any weight he should be fine. but i think christy is right that the less that you bf him the less milk you will make. That is how they get your milk up when they have growth spurts, they drink what's in there and then the rest of the suckling signals your body to produce more. my little one used to do that to me all the time and i think he's going through another one right now cause its starting again. ( 4 mos) but if you just let him nurse as long as he wants to-even if you feel empty your supply should be back up in a couple of days.
