Breastfeeding After C Section

Hi - I was so sick with being drugged up and my blood pressure after my surgery I didn't get to start with my baby until way later the next day. The nurses gave her bottles all night. I did not have any problems b___stfeeding her. Sure it was just a matter of getting the hang of it but don't stress yourself if you can't do it right away. A few bottles won't cause your newborn to not be able to b___stfeed. It takes patience and help from the nurses but you will be able to do it.

Wel I had my 4th baby on May 31st and I was lucky it was about 2 hours after I had him and I was out of recovery he wanted to feed for the first time. I found it pretty easy though he did have trouble at first latching but with some patience he was a pro in a day. this was my 4th csection and I haev to say I was very succesful though my son at 10 days old was 7 ibs 9.9 ounces and he was born weighing 7 ibs 12 and a half ounce so not quiet his birth weight. i have never had this problem before with ne of my babies not gaining at least there borthweight or 1 ibs by the time they were 1 week old but the dr says it looks like i just have a small baby. take care and all the luck in the world :)

hi ladies, well when i had my baby i didn't bf until i went home. i had so much pain on my incision and my b___st hurted so much because i was holding the milk. then i started pumping and little by little i started bf. but what i didn't know is that if you don't latch the baby to suck properly that will cause you pain. and also the more you bf the more you'll produce, i really enjoyed bf i had pain for about 2 wks, then within time i learned and i bf for 9 mts. so read more about bf there is alot to learn. GOOD LUCK !!!

Good luck to everyone and congratulations to all who have had your babies! I am having my c-section in 30 days! I am so excited to meet my new son! I am sure I will figure it out. We took a cla__s last week and they kept stressing be calm! The stress and fear really makes it hard. They also said if your hospital has a lactation consultant to put in the request to meet with them the moment the baby is born so when they do come you will get extra help. Most insurances pay if you request it in the hospital then you get 1 follow up visit, but if you don't request it and you call after the hospital it is out of pocket. Good luck!

Hi jen, I had an emergency csection last december, i was 14 days over and induced for 2 days, and he still didnt want to come out! as soon as i was out of theatre, probably within an hour of the section i had skin on skin contact with Harry-Joe and he wriggled towards my b___st instinctively and started to suck! I am expecting again and will opt for a planned section and do the same again and keep my fingers crossed! Good luck x

claireylou. thank you, that is exactly what the lactation consultant said in our bf cla__s. She said as soon as you can hold the baby, put him skin to skin kinda near your b___st and he will most likely wiggle to it and know what to do! So I am going to try that, and then maybe help him along. I am feeling alot better about it after my cla__s now. I was freaked that the c-section would make it so I could not again, but I am holding out hope!
