Having A Hard Time Making A Decision

I am due July 23rd with a girl.
I had my son 8.5 yrs ago. Had to have c section, due to being induced because of toximia, then after 19 hours of labor, never dialating past a 3.
This time, since 4 mos, I am having extreme pain in my hips/pelvic tailbone area. I broke my tailbone while pregnant ( on a motor boat) I had some steroid shots after the baby was born, and havent had pain untill now. But the pain is real bad. Laying on my side hurts. Getting out of bed hurts, climbing stairs hurts. I am just about on bed rest.
My dr said I can schedule a c section on the 18th. I told her I am concerned about being able to "push" out a baby through my painfull pelvis. She said she thought I could. But I really dont think she takes my pelvic pain serious.
I dont know if I should even try a va___al labor. I am scared of either one.
I am scared of being in agonizing labor again for 19 hrs, to end up with a CS anyways. I am scared that I get cut in half, and not beable to get out of bed at all, because of my inscision and tailbone/pelvic pain...
I am tentativly saying that if my body doesnt go into labor by itself by july 18th, I'll schedule the C section.
But again, I dont know if thats the best decision...

WOW We have some things in common, I am due July 23rd and have a c-section scheduled for July 18th also. I have to have a c-section because I had one before not because of any complications....(all the hospitals here dont allow v-bacs). I wont tell you what to do but at first when I thought I had a choice I was going to choice a c-section anyways but I dont have the pelvic issues. I would do another c-section but really the decision was made for me....I know I havent been much help but really its your choice and you have to decide for yourself....I am afraid of labor so you might not want to listen to me but I think your plan is good.... Good luck, Oh, I have a 7 year old girl and am having another girl too.....

Wow, interesting.
What state are you in?
Is that a statewide law, about no VBAC?
Why would you choose a csection again? Do you feel its easier ?

My youngest daughter is 7 and I'm having a repeat c-section. Keli, it seems you are straddling the fence about your decision. First you seem to want it because of the pelvic pain, but you are concerned about not being able to get out of bed if you're cut. In either case you are going to have pain. Remember pushing down will put strain on the pelvis because it has to open itself and separate for the baby to pa__s through. So you must weigh the pros and cons of which you think you will be able to deal with better. I don't think the doctor is discounting your pain. I think she is just considering it normal. I too have terrible hip pain, every day both hurt for hours and I limp when I walk. The pain comes from lying down and I just can't seem to get comfortable. I know it's because of the baby weight, the body changing to prepare for delivery and not being able to give my sides relief by lying on my stomach or back. Read up on the risks of VBAC versus repeat c-section and maybe that will help you with your decision. Good luck.

OH, Sorry I never got back to you, I erased the e-mail message where it told me you had responded and I forgot, but I have a fear of labor, I have the fear of being in labor for hours and ending up with another c-section, especially an emergency one. LIke i said before you may not want to listen to me because I am motivated by that fear. If you are confident in your decision then I say you made the right one for you!!! and Its not a state thing, its more the hospitals that are on my insurance, there is one hospital here that allows women to attempt vbacs but it is not covered on my insurance and with the horrible reputation they have there I wouldnt chose them if they were covered. Good luck and I am in courtdown mode...19 more days til my C on 7/18/06.....

thanks for your input!
I am scheduled July 18th, she said I could do it as early as july 13th, but I want to keep her cookn' as long as possible.
I too had a very long ( 17 hrs) labor before, and ended up with a c section. But that was 8 yrs ago. I may have forgotton how bad it was...

Oh you are lucky they gave you a choice, I pracrtically begged for the 13 and the doctor said the hopistal doesnt allow you to schedule c-sections before 39 weeks unless there are complications and I tried to get Monday the 17th but they were booked, so I have to wait until the 18th, unless someone decides on their own they want to come which I doubt, I have no signs of labor but its still kinda early.... Good luck.....

Keli, Looks from your last post like you decided on a repeat c-section, so I'll just say that with my first I had a hard 24 hour labor, so the eventual c-section's recovery was rough. But, with #'s 2 & 3, they were scheduled and sooo much easier to recover from... ~sahmof3~
