Does the spinal block injection hurt? Is it like any other injection? Which is better and less painful, epidural or spinal block? Thanks!

I HAD AN EPIDURAL FOR BOTH OF MY SECTIONS. IT IS NOT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE, BUT JUST LIKE ANY OTHER INJECTION ONCE IT IS DONE IT WORKS GREAT. JUST FOLLOW THERE DIRECTIONS OF HOW THEY WANT YOU TO SIT OR LAY AND YOU'LL BE FINE. I ALWAYS GET THE SHAKES AFTER MY EPIDURAL BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT.

I had a c section and had a spinal block, I have never had an epidural, but the spinal did not hurt at all. the only prob i had was when it was all over, My face itched really really bad, a dose of benadryl helped a whole lot! hope this helps.

I had a spinal because I couldn't have an epidurel and the c-section was unplanned. The spinal itsself didn't hurt, but then angain I was in very hard labor at the time and maybe I didn't care. The only bad part was the fact that I developed a spinal headache. If you are able to have an epidurel but have a spinal instead and develop a spinal headache, ask for a blood patch....it's supposed to take the headache away right away....i wasn't able to have the blood patch because of problems in my back (same reason i couldn't have epidurel) and i had to suffer for several days with the headache. Good luck to you, you will be just fine! And CONGRATS to you and your new baby!

I had a spinal 3 years ago with my planned csection....sorry, but it did hurt. I am expecting again and hoping they have changed things a little to make it better. My doctor said the injection to numb you is what hurts the worst like a bee sting, after that you dont feel a thing. All peoples pain tolerences are different. I personally thught it hurt and I did cry. I wanted to hunt the poor nurse down to apologize for screaming and crying and clawing her to death with my nails. I think if I would have known more of what they were doing I wuld have handled it better, I was scared too which didnt help. so I am reading more on epidural to understand the procedure in what they will be doing so I dont freak this bad this time. good luck to you. .

I had a spinal and they had to insert the needle twice. By that point I was so eager to get the whole birth process over with that I didn't notice any pain. I remember that they sprayed my back with something that felt cold, and that was all. I had a spinal headache afterwards, and they did a blood patch, and it worked instantly. I've had migraines since then, though, and I'm not sure if it's related.

I have had all 3, spinal, epidural, & general. Epidurals & Spinals are basically the same only difference is the spinal only has one dose of medicane & an epidural has to have meds. put in more often. They both feel the same going in. It feels like someone pushing into your back with their finger really hard. Just breath deep. It's the pressure that hurts the most to me.

Do you have a catheter inserted when having a c-section??

Sarah - July 26

JK, Yes you do. I always request mine to be inserted after I am numb. I you don't request it most of the time you get it inserted when you show up at the hospital before you go numb.
