I am scheduled to have my second c-section in 3 wks. My last c-section was an emergency and I had already had an epidural. I hated the epidural! I felt like my whole body was paralyzed, and then I started to have anixety attack because I think I was scared by the feeling. So I was wondering if a spinal is any better? Or does it give you the same paralyzing feeling?

Hi Jodie,
I just had my second csection on July 19th. My first was an emergancy and downright awful. The epidural never completly took and I felt it and kicked the doctor while cut open before I was put under. Never heard my son's first cry. I was so scared knowing my next was planned. Everyone said it would be better, but I didnt believe it. I was terrified. If i had known how easy it was I would never have wasted a moment worring. I had the spinal this time, and what a difference. I heard her first cry and it hardly hurt when they administered the shot. It was actually a rather wonderful overall experiance. I thought it would be horrible, and was so impressed with the spinal. I never got a single side effect. I know some women do, but it was a 100 times better then the epidural for me. Relieved all my fears and I ended up with a memorable nice childbirth this time around. Good luck to you...

Jodie- I also had an epidural in labor, that they left in for the eventual c-section. I didn't have any problems with my epi, though. The spinal (with my 2nd baby) was basically the same feeling for me. You will feel paralyzed again, but try not to panic- it's normal and you need to feel that way in order to not feel the c-section going on. I was asleep for my third, so no spinal or epidural with him.

I just had a spinal wtih an epidural pack too. Darned if I know the difference. I was just numb anyway. I was fully aware, but not in any pain.
