I am 28 years old and expecting my first baby on July 10 2007 by cesarean section with a hysterectomy. I was wondering what happens during both surgerys from being to end. How does the epideral work? Can my husband be with me? We were planning a va___al homebirth in the water, so my husband is very upset. Can he tell me what the s_x is after it is born instead of the doctor? We do not know the s_x of the baby! This is our first. Can I br___tfeed the baby before I get put under for the hysterectomy? My mom says this is all my fault. I do not know how this could be my fault. I had always thought I would be like my mom, she 6 kids all va___ally no problems. I am the only girl. She says she does not know how I could be having so many problems. I had always thought I would have at least 4 kids. My other thing is I am having problems always using the bathroom, ever since 3 months ago I have had to wear depend diapers all the time. I do not like that, I would not have a problem with it if it was only at night but it is all the time. My husband says I am a baby, I do not know what the big thing is whenever we are out I bring depends with me but they are always in my purse. He says you can hear the depends making noise when I walk, and you can also see it when I walk. I do not know why he cares I always change myself when I need to. Is this a health problem, or could this be the baby sitting on my bladder, I hope when I have surgery the doctor can fix this problem. I can not see myself like this all my life. I had always thought I would not wear a depend until a lot later in life. Can I wear a gown during surgery or will I completely naked? Can I wear my bra? How does the doctor know I am numb before they start the surgery? Do they do all the preperations before I am in the operating room? How many people can I have in the operating room for the cesarean section? Can I have anybody video tape the birth? Do I need to shave the va___a before surgery, I hope not I can barely see down there now? I can not see asking my husband or mom to shave me?

Hi Green, I think your urinary problems may be due to your ovarian cancer. Most women with a first pregnancy do not leak enough urine to need an adult diaper. However, no matter what the reason, I feel strongly offended for you that your family is blaming you for your gyn/ob problems, and that your husband calls you a baby. During the c-section you can usually have your husband or a support person in the room sitting by your head with the spinal/epidural. You could ask the doctor to let him tell you what the baby is. I am not sure if they will let you b___stfeed before the general anesthesia, but you can ask. There are a number of threads about the c-section procedure so I will fill you in on the hysterectomy part. If you are having a total hysterectomy they will remove your uterus and your cervix. Since you are probably having an oopherectomy they will also remove your ovaries and fallopian tubes. These surgeries involve freeing the organs from their filmy attachments in the pelvis and cutting them from the supending ligaments. Some blood vessels may be cauterized (burned shut) or st_tched off since the uterus, tubes and ovaries are no longer there. You will be given estrogen-only for hormone replacement since you are way too young to be in menopause. Remember, the studies out there that raised red flags about heart problems with hormones was with the combination estrogen/progesterone pills. You will not be getting the combo med since you will not have a uterus. The hysterectomy will put you in immediate surgical menopause so be very clear on what your doctor plans for you after the surgery. I had the whole hysterectomy/oopherectomy surgery too and I love my estrogen pills. No more pain, periods, cramps, hemorrhaging, PMS, mood swings. Downside, I had a decrease in s_x drive, BUT, I am in nursing school full-time, working, and I lost my mom to cancer while I've been in school so it is hard to pin the low interest on the hysterectomy. Good luck to you and my best advice is to write all these questions down and give them to your doctor soon so he/she can discuss it with you.
