If you do not have a deep wound that requires packing, try to get a hold of a special type of wound dressing made by Smith & Nephew. It's called Allevyn Thin adhesive 4x4. It is a special wound bandage that will actually stick to a hairy area without pulling out the hair, and it promotes moist wound healing. I have been using these for about a week and cannot believe the improvement in my wound. It has shrunk considerably and looks like it is on the path to being totally closed up. A small portion of my c-section incision did not close properly and was gaping open. It was only the first layer that was open, not to the deep abdominal cavity like some of you ladies have experienced, but it still looked like raw meat and seeps blood and pus. My doc told me to use hydrogen peroxide and gauze, but I got some other advice from a wound care nurse and some samples of the Allevyn. It is working so well that I just went to a medical supply store to buy some more Allevyn dressings. They are pricey, but can be trimmed smaller so that one dressing can be used for more than one dressing change.

anna, about minimizing your scar, you can lighten it over time with vitamin e capsules just poke a hole in one and rub it in the area of the scar, Good look

I just had a C-Section 11 days ago, and there is a black spot in the middle of where the doctor cut me, when i go to clean it a pink/red fluid comes from it and it soaks a whole towel! Yuck. But what is this, what causes it, and how do I treat it?

This sounds like MRSA! don't settle for a pat on the head, DEMAND a culture be taken of it! Blackened skin can be a sign of a severe Staph infection.

I had a C-Section 4 and 1/2 weeks ago. my would was sewn and stappled. I was on antibiotics IVs for 2+ days...basically from the time after the surgery to the day before i was discharged (Cut on sunday and discharged on Wed). Currently, my wound is healing well according to my doc. I'm still numb slightly above and below the wound, but no leaking or visible infection. The would is closed completely. i suggest you get a second or even a third if your wound is still open/infected after being discharged from the hospital.

I had a c-section 10 days ago abd feel fine. i don't even take pain medication. my husband took care of our son entirely by himself the 5 days .. i stay in bed most of the time and just rested .. i think his help and suport has contribute to my emotional and physical road to recovery.. ( for those of you who don't know there is such thing as paternity leave.. my husband will be off for 6 weeks )

Well I had my second c-section on 12/27/05. They stapled me up. Two days later i went back to the hospital because I was leaking fluids. They opned me back up with their bare hands and no drugs. They stuffed at least 8 gauze in me. Till this day I'm still recovering. It hurts like crazy. They said it must heal from the inside out. My wound was 5cm deep. Now the nurse is saying I might need lazor surg. done because of the way it is healing. What else can go wrong. The only good thing is, Thank GOD (Knock on wood) I had no infections. I just want this over with.

Hello everyone I haven't been on here since like August when i finally healed and there is still lots of people comin ghome with open wounds. I had my C-section May 18, 2005 and it finally closed August 5,2005 thats a very long time but I guess I was deep but still the this day it still hurts a little like a hot stingy feeling on the sides of it. But I haven't had to go back to the hospital for anything, Thank God this is my last I got a tubal the same day. Good luck everyone and take care of those wonderful babies.

My daughter had an emergency c-section on February 18th. She experienced the draining which by the way her doctor nor nurses from the hospital informed her could happen upon being discharged from the hospital. The draining has slowed down severely, but she has small amounts draining now from her incision in a different spot then the original gusher. She says now the liquid is yellowish clear color - I am not sure if this is normal. Can someone advise on this? Also, she has a bumpy area of skin above the entire length of the incision is this normal as well? If it is how long will it take for the bumpiness to go down and is there anything she can do for it?

I was stapled about 3 weeks ago and had an opening of the size of two fingers as well. A nurse came out everyday and packed it until it closed from the inside out. Now there is a big lump there and very uncomfortable.

I had a cesarean 7 days ago...went to the doc yesterday to have staples removed and I have cellulitus. I am now on anti-biotics and have been told it is a must to keep the area dry. Does anyone have any suggestions? I read the post about the diaper rash cream...has anyone had success with that? Thanks! Lisa (Liscola@aol.com)
