Does The Roll Ever Go Away

I am not a fat person and had an emergency c-section in August. I immediately was surprised at the roll that gathered over the scar. I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but the roll is not going anywhere. It seems the skin just can't relax there anymore. Does anyone know if the roll ever gets flat with the scar again?

Well, sometimes, and sometimes not. I was really thin before and after my c-sections, and then when I got to a more normal weight of 110 pounds the lip appeared for the first time. If I am very busy and drop a couple pounds it goes away, but the minute I gain back a couple there it is. My doc said it is because the scar doesn't stretch like the skin and fat tissue above and below it so any weight changes, small or large will show up there. One of the down sides of c-sections. :( It is really inconveinent when trying to choose certain clothing options. Don't know what to do about that.

Not too encouraging! If you need a second c-section do they cut out the first scar, or do you get a double roll?

They will excise the old scar and put the new edges together. This is done with only in millimeters so you really won't get any tighter skin from it. The lip is like Liza said, a different type of tissue that does not have expansive or stretchable fibers in it.

I will be having my last child before September and all 4 of my children will have been born by C-Sec. I have had the roll since the first one and I only weighed 105 lbs after the birth and it still didn't go away. I have spoken about it with my husband forever and I am planning on having scar removal surgery which they said they could get rid of the roll. I am excited about that. My first C-Sec was when I was 19 so I really haven't been able to wear a bikini EVER! Yes, I am over 35. Good Luck to you.

are you talking about the tiny raising of skin over the scar???

jan - mine isn't so tiny. if i rub my tummy there is a real buldge over the scar... like a custom made roll. My underwear is on my skin, then there is a dent, then it is on my skin again. If i wear bikini underwear, the top of it is on the scar and it looks like I roll over my underwear. It's a definate roll, not tiny at all. And I am back below my pre-pregnacy weight, it's just that the scar is sucked in or something. Anyway, judging from the responses I guess I am stuck with it. I am ont too upset, it was just a surprise is all. I guess my husband will have to get used to briefs and one piece bathing suits. Lucky him!

The skin on my scar also raised up some and my doctor told me to use a scar treatment patch that you can buy at most stores. It helped a little but there is still a little roll.

I have read that ma__sage can reduce the roll or hardness around the scar. (Still looking into, since I just had a c-section 3 weeks ago). The roll has to do w/ scar tissue from your skin and the layers below sticking together, so I've read...

The roll in non-overweight people is a sign of poor approximation (line-up) of the inner tissues. I did not have a roll with my 1st c-section. Now with my 2nd c, I have the roll. However, I had some complications with my incision not closing (you may have seen some of my other posts). I went to talk to a plastic surgeon about the horrible thing that happened to my scar when the incision finally healed itself (that's another long story), but as a side note I asked him about the roll. He said that the roll means that in addition to not lining up the outer layer of my skin properly (which is why my incision didn't close) they also did not line up the inner layers properly. I still have a little bit of weight to lose, but the plastic surgeon said that if poor approximation of tissues is the case, then the roll will not go away even after I lose the weight.

By the way, I forgot to mention that they DID NOT excise my old scar as Maisy mentioned. This is probably why I had the problem with it not healing up.

Isn't the incision very low along the bikini line? and not right under the belly b___ton? So wouldn't that not show so much if you wear high cut bikinis?
