whats the reason for waitng so long to drive, versus just riding in the car? Im also curious to know how long some of you were told to wait before drivng again. I was told 2 weeks.

Hi my dr told me that you can still get pulling and sharp pains occasionally. He wants me to wait 6 weeks! I've been driving on short trips like to the store or wherever after 2 weeks. So far I've been fine. I think I'd go crazy if I waited 6 weeks! Good luck :)

i was told to wait 2wks. the reason they gave me was if you had to suddenly brake, your scar could reopen.

I was told to wait 6 weeks, which is in all the books here in australia, but I drove after 1 week, I felt fine. The reason my doc gave me for them advising not to drive, is because the muscle in our bellies has been bruised, and response times are not the same, to hit the brake pedal. I was able to drive normally......I have to drive, and couldn't wait the 6 weeks.

I have to drive soon, too, kimberley, when my mother leaves, i have to take my daughter to school. Im about 1 1/2 weeks postpartum. I drove a couple short trips already and was fine, but i was still a little worried.

HI. The risks are real for re-opening your incision if you have to make a sudden move or brake. Also, the main reason for not driving for the first couple weeks is you may still have residual anesthesia and/or opiates in your system which still slow your reaction time down. BIG deal is if you still need some Rx pain meds you are an impaired driver and safety aside, you could get a DUI just like someone who was drinking. If you must, don't take any pain meds for several hours or more before you attempt driving for your safety as well as others.

djh, I was off of pain meds 3 days after having my c-section, and there was no way my scar was going to open...it was healed closed...I had a really good c-section, thankfully.
