was wondering if you could all help ease my anxiety maybe?? I am almost at 40 weeks ( in 3 days) and was told that they will give me the option to have a c-section due to our baby estimating at 9.7lbs at my 39 week u/s. I have been mentally preparing to go through a va___al birth, BUT at this point am scared either way cuz of his size. I have an appt. this friday, my due date, and was told i would be given this option if i dont go into labor by then, which it doesn't seem like. keeping my fingers crossed!! What would you do? Would you opt for a c-section right away or wait it out some more and then decide? Any help would be much appreciated!

I had 2 c-sections due to breech presentation. Both of my babies ended up being large (9 lb and 10 lb) although that was never suspected. My college roommate had a healthy 11 lb baby v____ally with no complications. Those size estimations are often inaccurate anyway.

You should absolulty try to deliver v____ally if you have no complications. The ultra sound estimate could be wrong. My son was estimated to be nearly 2 pounds heavier then he actually was. If you end up needing the csection, I have had two and both ended up being fine. My aunt delivered a 14 pound baby naturally... This was back before ultra sounds, and they probably would have done the section then if they had known, but it was unessasary... The csections I had always scared me, but both ended up being okay. Having major surgury sucks, but having the baby is awesome so it makes it worth it.... good luck...

You could still probably try a v____al delivery. I had big babies, too. The first was 9 5, second was 8 3 (and they took her 10 days before due date, so she'd have probably been a 9-pounder) and the third was 10 6- taken 3 days before my due date (and I don't even want to think about what he'd have weighed if I'd have gone two weeks overdue like I did with my first- OWWW!!). Anyway, mine were all by c-section. After my first baby- and a 24 hour labor-I found out I have scar tissue on the cervix and can't dilate, so my first labor was pointless, but I'd still recommend trying it if you wish. There are plusses and minusses either way. My c-sections weren't too bad. I think I had a normal amount of pain and a normal recovery period, so for me it wasn't too bad. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but that's just the way it was. I'm not much help as far as your decision, I guess. Just thought I'd share my experience:)

thanks for your responses ladies and for your kind words! sahmof3- you said yours were done early becuase of their large size. They say they will not induce me early because of this and want to wait things out at least til past 41 weeks unless I go into labor naturally which it doesn't look like at this point. I guess you never know! Looks like he will be one big boy.

Hey Everthiki. Actually, I went to 41 weeks, 6 days with my first and went into labor, but it wasn't "taking off" on it's own, so I was induced. If I had it to do over again, I'd have just gone with a c-section right away, instead of all the pain and pointless labor, but hindsight is always 20/20, huh? Anyway, the other two were taken early, not because of size, but because they didn't want me to go into labor on my own. Although, with my 2nd they were doing scheduled C's 10 days early, but with my 3rd they wouldn't do them more than 7 days early because they'd had a baby that they took 10 days early that was small and had underdeveloped lungs. I tried to convince them they didn't have to worry about that with me, but no go:( I scheduled it 3 days before his due date, because it was a Thursday and my mom and dh could take the least # of days off work while I was in the hospital. Oh well, I was asleep for the 10 pounder's birth, so the size didn't really matter:) Good luck in your delivery, however it happens:)

I have had 3 sections myself, but don't know what I'd do-- sorry!! But I do know that the size estimations can be off. They have been off in my case. Good luck!!

i had my first natural and she was to big so i had fourth dergree cuts rips and tears all over the place. it was horrible and it took me eights weeks before i could even sit down right. if the baby is to big you dont want to put yourself through that. i just had my second three weeks ago and he was a c-section it was wonderful. it is very uncomfortable to get up the first day after. but after that it is so much easy than when i had my first. he was in nicu for 10 so i had to go to the hospital several times a day. if that would have happen woth my first i wouldnt have been able to see her. i couldnt move. good luck with your baby hope this helps
