shauna congradulations, we decided to start trying so i got off the pill and we got pregnant right after I ovulated for the first time off the pill (less than 14 days later) I had been on the pill 10 years so I was shocked it happened so fast. We aren't married yet but I don't mind we have been together for 11years and i'm secure with our relationship, I don't think you have to be married to be good parents... I love to exchange email address with you, but not sure if i want my email on this forum?? any ideas

i regret my c-section. i cried for months after words because i felt like a failure, but one OBGYN said my pelvic bones are big enough, and one said it's too small. However, the one that said its too small says he would rather me have another elective c section but i could try a VBAC if i "really really wanted to"

Pinkbootlace, I too felt like a failure after my c-section. You're not. It's not your fault. If you have one OB who's pushing an elective c, and another who says you could try for a VBAC, I'd go for the doc wiht the VBAC. It sounds like the first one is a little too eager to cut.

I can't believe any of you'd opt for a C-section without good medical reasons. If anyone researches v____al plus c-section outcomes, they'll know that natural birth is safer when there are no indications of problems. Too many c-sections have been done for doctors' convenience or mothers have been intimidated into them. I'd have done anything I could to have had v____al deliveries. Due to childhood disease, my pelvis deformed inward. No doctor ever told me that might cause a problem. Not until two weeks before my lst delivery did the doctor suspect it might be necessary. They did some tests but I went into labor before final one and due to fetal distress a quick x-ray was taken which determined normal delivery impossible. They quickly operated and delivered my son who suffered fetal distress and spent 9 days in incubator. He was 4 lbs. 10 oz. and oxygen deprived. He has normal I.Q. but some learning problems. Even though they knew my daughter would be a repeat C-section, they didn't want her underweight or in distress so they waited longer. They scheduled C-section 22 days after due date but labor came 4 days sooner. It was hard to convince them it was real labor until 26 hours pa__sed. They gave me epidural and I was in bad pain when they pulled her out. There was no excuse for it. By then she was in distress which I didn't find out for years. My children are in their 30's. I hope doctors are more attentive now. I would not repeat this for anything. I stil would've had a 3rd C-section if my life circ_mstances made another pregnancy possible. However, I would 've been more a__sertive as to how & when. If medical circ_mstances demand a C-Section, get one. Otherwise, get a doctor who believes in having a natural birth & will pursue it most. Get educated on how to manage pregnancy and birth smoothly & don't let yourself be intimidated. It's your body and your birth experience and something not to be missed. H.R. Gean June 19,2006

pinkbo0tlace, I also felt like a failure. They said my pelvic bones are too narrow also. I got an infection (coreioamniosis?) only a couple hours after my water broke and my dd was in distress (as was I). Now they said I can always try a VBAC but they give me a slim chance at success. It doesn't do much to encourage me to labor again. I recovered well from my first, how am I supposed to decide if I should risk another labor? Somehow I almost wish the doctor would tell me what to do.

pinkbo0tlace & Olivia, I feel similar to both of you. I was told once I was 9 days past due that I would need to be scheduled for a C-section because "my bones were too small to deliver". The doctor estimated that I would have a 9lb+ baby. I was never even offered an induction because my daughter never dropped and my body had done nothing at that point. I was scheduled for a c-section the following day and when I got to the hospital and they started to prep me for the surgery the nurse said I was having active contractions, I didn't even feel them. I wasn't given an option to even try a v____al delivery. My daughter was not a 9 pound baby, she was 7lbs 13oz, so they were wrong about that and I wonder if I could have tried a v____al birth. That was 12 years ago. I'm now 35 weeks pregnant with my second child and my doctors have said they would like to schedule a c-section at 39 weeks. I haven't agreed to this yet. They said I could wait and try VBAC, but that the same thing could occur with this pregnancy, the lack of progress, and they can not induce me because of the increased risk of my scar rupturing. I don't want them to just opt for the easy way out with the c-section. I'd also like someone to kinda tell me what to do. I told them I'm just going to take the wait and see approach for now until I get closer to my due date. Good luck to you both!!! When are your due dates?

Dear LL, Sounds like a very old-fashioned doctor. Don't be intimidated. Aftyer 12 years you should be able to try a VBAC. Just be sure to be monitored so if a major problem occurs a c-section can still be done. I see no reason they couldn't let you try for a v____al delivery lst time if contractions were active. They just don't want their schedule upset. Put your foot down! It's not too late to speak your mind or even to change doctors. You deserve a good birth experience. There was no way I could have a v____al delivery and I was terribly let down. Sometimes I wonder if something could've been done when I was a child to prevent my pelvic deformity. It was very upsetting to find out shortly before birth of lst child. Doctors never mentioned it. I would consult with other doctors or even nurse midwives. They use techniques which can often prevent c-sections. Good luck! It's your body and your baby, not the doctor's or anyone else's. H.R. Gean

P.S. to latest letter: Had profuse bleeding after lst C-Section plus later infection in incision. With second one there was later tearing and clot over uterine incision plus fever & infection. That was about 3 weeks later accompanied by heavy bleeding. Is it worth the risk? H.R. Gean

Well, I had a C-section with our first, was an emergency. Blood pressure started to shoot up around 30 weeks so I was put on bed rest and started taking a safe blood pressure medication. At 35 weeks, I started having bad headaches so my doc told me to come in and my pressure was dangerously high, was given medication thru an IV which did not help, was then given magnesium sulfate which again did not help. Next morning, had my section and yes I was sore afterwards and it was very painful but I healed up quickly without any problems and our dd is just fine. Am currently 10 weeks pregnant and my doc said I would most likely have another C section and honestly, I do not mind. I understand that v____al is better but there are some women who do choose to have a C section for their own personal reasons and I feel that they should not have to explain themselves to anyone if they don't want to and should not be made to feel like a failure.

I also had a c-section with my first daughter. This was nearly eight years ago, not by choice I pushed my heart out and they tried everything to pull her out but her heart rate started to drop and I had to do it. I swear I have had nothing but problems down there and in there ever since!!!!!!! Now I'm pregnant with my second and Doc is making me have a c-section I'm furious!!!! I want to have this baby normal. But I have polyps on my cervix and am also missing a large portion of it due to surgery on my cervix about three years after having my first daughter. So I'm a high risk pregnancy going to doc's every two weeks, I'm 22 weeks. And I think electing to just have a c-section is insane!!!! I was in so much pain afterwards that I could not even bathe myself or barley hold the baby, for a good two weeks or so. Plus they had me so doped up it was just a big nightmare. Now I'm a nervous wreck having to have this done yet again. I begged Doc for a vbac and he said it was way to dangerous. I have heard that actually having a planned one can be worse then having an emergency one? Has anyone had a similar situation and can tell me what a planned one is like? Cause I'm scared!!!!!!!!! :(
