Is it safe to eat deli meat when your pregnant. I just found out I am pregnant and had a turkey sandwich. Someone just told me no deli meat. Is that true?

I was wondering the same thing. I had two pieces of salami today and when I realised that it was lunch meat I freaked out! I wonder what the chances are that any harm was done?

No, deli meats are not bad for you. Except that you have to heat them up until they are steaminig hot. Deli meats contain a bacteria called listeria and if not heated up the bacteria can hurt the baby.

AMV, what Dani says is true. If you heat it up to a high enough temperature to kill the Listeria. I think moderation is also key. I have also heard that deli meat has nitrates as a preservative which is also not good if you eat alot of it.
