Ok... I know I'm getting a little crazy, but I'm curious... When looking at the ingredients of lots of different packaged foods, if it says milk or lowfat milk, can I assume it's pastuerized? Or does it have to say it? I know on milk and cheese it will say pastuerized, but what about other things (hot chocolate, baked goods, etc)? I'm finding many just say milk. So should I avoid them?

Any milk in any commercial food product will be pasteurized simply because it is illegal in most states not to be. You are right to be worried though, unpasteurized milk is dangerous stuff!!

Oh and besides, the process of pasteurization is all about heat so hot chocolate and baked goods are perfectly safe. You would be hard pressed to find any food in the grocery store that contains unpasteurized milk. Just stay away from speciality foods and soft cheeses and you should be OK.
