Please Not Iron Tablets

Every pregnancy I have I end up anaemic (sp?) ..Midway through the 2nd trimester I end up on iron tablets and I hate them - they make me constipated, I feel sick with them and they taste sooo vile - both when you take them and the after taste just lingers and lingers!!! Anyway I'm just about 9 weeks now and would like to beat it this time! I thought a high iron content diet might work? Any ideas? Anyone do this already? I have a fairly healthy diet anyway - I think - but I will need more to avoid the dreaded iron tablets!!! I ate spinach like no mans business after my last m/c left me severely anaemic - and that did work ..but ...well ..there has to be more to life than spinach!! Thanks, Irene

Are you taking preggo vitamins? Usually they are high in iron. I started them with my first child and they made me sick, so my Dr. told me to take children's chewable vitamins that contained extra iron. When I chewed them they gave me terrible heartburn so I started to swallow them whole with water and had no trouble. Plus they are cheaper than preggo vitamins. You should talk to you Dr. and see if He/She has any ideas. Hope this helps. GL
