OK this is going to be a bit long winded but here goes.
I am 9 weeks pregnant. I am very overweight; I am 5'11" and currently 255lbs. as of this morning. Now the problem is not so much my weight like you may think, it’s the opposite. I am actually very healthy otherwise. I can do a cartwheel you wouldn’t believe :-). How ever I am worried. I started working at Curves for women in September, and from then till I found out I was pregnant (February 8th) I only lost 10lbs even though I worked out regularly. My starting weight was 278 in Sep. 268 in Feb. Since Feb. 8th I have gone down to 255, and I’m not sick, tummy is a little finicky but I’m not even that nauseated. So I have lost another 13lbs. in a little over a month. I have changed a couple of things since I found out I was pregnant so I am not sure if it is that which has contributed to my weight loss or if I should be really concerned. I have been a vegetarian for about 15 years but a very unhealthy one, since Feb. I have been much more aware of what I eat, so now it is whole grain wheat instead of white, fewer sugar/syrup/etc. foods and more fruits. My tummy no longer tolerates milk products so I am pretty much vegan at this point but I am getting lots of calcium from OJ, iron and protein from beans etc. The other thing is I have been very good about taking my thyroid medication since I am hypothyroid. This is something I have a horrible track record with and I know that the condition can prevent weight loss, if not promote weight gain. Now I know most of you will tell me I need to see a dr. and ask him/her but here is a whole new set of problems. My hubby doesn’t get medical for another 3 months and we are in the income bracket that makes to much for state aid but not enough to actually pay for any medical services. So any info would be helpful. I have mixed feelings about this; I am happy that I am finally losing weight but worried that it could have a negative affect on the baby. Sorry for the book and thanks in advance for any replies.

Excercising doesn't harm the baby, in fact, since you are over-weight..excercising is best for those who are. It's best that you excercise and not take diet pills or be on a diet at all, it's not healthy for the baby. You are just fine, keep excercising. Don't excercise yourself to death though. =]

Hey Dragonfly, my opinion is that your body just took a while for your metabolism to quicken for you to lose weight. when I first started going to curves, I gained about 7lbs, I don't know why, I worked out 3-5times a week. Anyway, my mom started and it took her about 3months to really start losing weight, but once she started she lost it really fast, it could just be the combination of metabolism getting faster and also nourishing a baby inside you too. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're sick. Im overweight too, and the doc said that I don't need to gain any weight during this pregnancy and its possible to lose some too. Just as long as you are eating healthy and getting everything you need in your daily diet. Good luck! I wouldn't worry unless you were sick.

I am also hypothyroid Dragonfly and I have been taking a daily pill for the past 8 or 9 years. I am 8w 3d pregnant and I am overweight as well. I used to weigh 250 lbs 2 years ago and over the past 2 years I lost 70 pounds!!! Going to the gym and sticking to a healthy diet ( I used to Zone Diet) made a huge difference. Well since I became pregnant I put on 10 lbs(I am currently 190lbs) already and I really don't want to gain any more weight than I have to while pregnant where it was so hard to take those 70 lbs off. I wouldn't worry about losing weight while pregnant as long as it is just from safe exercise and not depriving yourself of food that the baby needs. Good luck!
