Hi!! I heard that you are not supposed to have msg while pregnant. most chinese foods are loaded with it! I would check with your doctor or ask the chinese restaurant to make it without. I think i heard they can do that!

What do you think the over one billion Chinese women eat whilst pregnant...? Smileygirl do you believe that only Chinese food contains MSG!?! Wake up, check out the ingredients of all the foods you buy in the supermarket--that is unless you are only buying organic products. If it says it contains "seasonings" its most likely contains MSG. Do a search on the web for all the aliases of MSG--shocking!!...now that will be some food for thought : )

I have eaten chinese throughout my pregnancy and am now 30 weeks. Everything seems to be fine and yes Franny is right. MSG can be found in A LOT of foods, not just chinese food.

Franny- no need to get all hostile. I was just trying to help. As a matter of fact I am not ignorant, and doI know msg is found in alot of things. Yes, I do look for it in ingredients (like canned soups, salad dressings, etc) and try not to eat it if I can get around it. I am only telling Jellybaby what a woman who is a NP OBGYN and her pediactric anesthesiologist husband told me. (And what I have read in many books) As far as the Chinese are concerned, I really don't know how much MSG the Chinese eat and don't care. I now know that Chinese places here offer to cook without it. I am thinking about my pregnancy and my baby and doing everything I can to make it a healthy one. I am also willing to pa__s along information that I have recieved, if it is requested.

Smileygirl, I appologize for sounding hostile, but I found your comment culturally/cuisine-wise ignorant. Most Chinese food is NOT "loaded" with MSG. The fact is most food products sold in American Supermarkets (and around the world for that matter) do contain MSG! MSG is found in most soups, salad dressings, processed meats, frozen entrees, ice cream, frozen yogurt, in crackers, bread, canned tuna, and very often in "low fat" and "no fat" foods to make up for flavor lost when fat is reduced or eliminated. It can be found in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and dietary supplements. MSG is found in major brands of infant formula!!! (Can you believe that!?!) It is found in vaccines -- including vaccines used on children. It is found in hospitals where it is hidden in the jello, chicken soup, and some IV solutions given to very sick patients. MSG is sprayed on wine grapes stating that it is a "pesticide or fungicide". This is the helpful and more accutate information that should be pa__sed on. The once a week (if even that!) Chinese meal you might enjoy will contain FAR LESS MSG then what you probably consume on a daily basis anyway. So pick up those chop sticks and enjoy!

My doctor said that it is not good to eat anything with MSG.... what I do is call the restaurant ahead of time explain my situation and ask if they use MSG in their food. PF Changs, Panda Express, and Pei Wei are some that DO NOT use MSG.
