I know when pregnant you are not allowed unpasturized cheeses. I was told though that pregnant women aren't allowed deli meats either. Is that true? Is cottage and cream cheese ok to eat as well?

I am not sure about deli meats but cottage and cream cheeses are always pasteurized, and safe to eat. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein and calcium. It is a very healthy food during pregnancy, and while b___stfeeding.

The thing about deli meats is that there is a possibility that they can carrey listeria; so they say becarefull about having deli meats. As long as you heat them to a steaming point you can eat them..."Because Listeria can grow at refrigeration temperatures of 40 ºF or below, FSIS and FDA advise all consumers to: Use all perishable items that are precooked or ready-to-eat as soon as possible. Clean their refrigerators regularly. Use a refrigerator thermometer to make sure that the refrigerator always stays at 40 º F or below. " You can also check this web site for more info. You should not worry too much; chances of listeria are not that high, but when pregnant it's always good to take precautions. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/OA/pubs/lm_tearsheet.htm
