The chances of getting listeriosis from sushi is pretty rare to begin with, but according to the CDC and USDA "Hormonal changes during pregnancy have an effect on the mother s immune system that lead to an increased susceptibility to listeriosis in the mother. According to the CDC, pregnant women are about 20 times more likely than other healthy adults to get listeriosis. In fact, about one-third of listeriosis cases happen during pregnancy. Listeriosis can be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta even if the mother is not showing signs of illness. This can lead to premature delivery, miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious health problems for her newborn." Read that again. *20 times* more likely while pregnant. And, yes, you can get listeriosis from raw fish.

I don't care cooked or not the person making them hadles them all. Dont get me wrong i love sushi. But i wont take a chance on my baby. I am 15 weeks along adn the babies health is more important than my love for sushi.

If you have never eaten sushi/sashimi to begin with now is not really the time to start eating it. It's like anything on a personal level; if you're not sure about it don't do it. North American culture can go a little extreme with the restrictions.

my opinion: people in our culture are fanatics... about everything. i'm not worrying about it, planning on going out for some sushi this evening to celebrate seeing the baby on ultrasound for the first time.

As long as you eat the "cooked" one. Ie. Shrimp roll, unagi roll or the veggie roll.

I love sushi!! I normally eat it with salmon and tuna. Since I have been pregnant.....I get the veggie kind. Its not as good to me, but I have heard too many bad things about eating meat while pregnant. I would agree with some of the other women who posted how it depends on the quality of the meat, and how it was fixed. Of course if you eat low quality meat and/or the meat is several days old......I would not eat it....pregnant or not.

Just use your common sense when it comes to eating. Providing you eat fairly well and healthy, not only for the baby but for yourself too, you should be fine. We all know that reheating package 'ready to cook' foods have a risk if not reheated properly etc but to be honest I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!. And any food raw or cooked has a degree of risk from listeria or other bacteria's, just make sure it isn't out of date, smells funny, or from some dingy take out!

I eat veggie sushi, and grilled Salmon sushi. You are not supposed to eat raw fish....everything else should be OK

i agree with the post that said 'everything in moderation'. with my first child, i dyed my hair black, ate soft cheese and drank the occa__sional gla__s of red wine with dinner and she is perfectly fine. i think everyone is way to paranoid these days (if you want to avoid certain foods or drinks, thats fine, but don't impose your opinions on others) our mothers weren't so crazy when they were pregnant- nowadays people act like being pregnant is this 'serious condition'. i think we just need to relax. ps: i think i'll go to a reputable restaurant for sushi tonight...
