Thanks so much for the info! I'm just over 6 weeks and have had bad night sweats for a couple of days now. My biggest worry is that it could affect the baby - but seems from doctors' comments below that it's okay.

hello to the epidemiologist...well, panic attacks can cause sweats..but I think unless you really have full b__wn panic in the night or in your dreams..it is probably from the pregnancy. I don't think there is any way it can hurt the baby. I am actually a psychiatrist myself...and about 3 weeks pregnant...very planned...but still freaking me out.

Really glad to know that this is common! I woke up last night soaking wet and was concerned that the baby might overheat! 9.5 weeks

sadly, my pregnancy didn't last...I was the one having night sweats since the beginning...week 2 or 3? So...I've been really, really sad. I am doing IVF and I think the night sweats were a combo of all the hormones, plus my body's own reaction to everything...so sad

I too have night sweats however I am 17 wks and guess it's not going to get any better. I think it has something to do with the weather for me though cause i live in the south it's a bit hotter. I am not overweight either however I do think that higher hormone levels cause it and also maybe the added weight.

I am 25 weeks along and woke up last night sweating profusely. I asked my doctor about this and he said that it takes an internal boday temperature of over 104 degrees to affect the baby, and the only time your body temperature really gets that high is from a fever. You have to think of all those wome who strenuously excersice throughout their pregnancy and their babies seem to be fine- they actually choose to sweat!

I'm 7 weeks and been having night sweats since week 5. I thought it was due to coming off an antidepressant I had been taking prior to finding out I was pregnant (obviously, this whole thing was unplanned). For me, I wake up soaked and cold and find that the warmer I can make myself at that point (turning off the a/c, closing windows, wearing long underwear and putting on an extra comforter), the better the rest of the night goes, though I usually still soak through a second set of pjs. I actually never attributed the sweats to being overheated but rather that maybe my body temperature drops quite a bit once I fall asleep and my body starts shivering in an attempt to produce sweat and raise the body temp? I have no idea, really. But I do hope things get somewhat better.

This is my 4th pregnancy and first time I have had night sweats. I'm only 5 weeks along but this is very comforting to know I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Your hormones and yeah I have them too. It's not so much fun I can sleep in the buff and have 2 fans and the AC on wide open and I still sweat!

Fit at 9wks with night sweats & cold awakenings for the past week. I'm constantly experiencing nausea & believe it's related to the hormones, but the hospital said it's nothing to do w/ the pregnancy & to see my GP. I feel fine otherwise.

Saw my GP & it's a bug. I wouldn't have guessed as I've had no flu like symptoms. The nightsweats are fever related & complete bedrest for a week because of early pregnancy (9wks).Worth getting checked even if no other symptoms.

dear dee!!!!
33 wks preg - and also my 2nd pregnancy. I also have my list of "complaints" with this pregnancy. my 1st pregnancy was a walk in the park - no sweats or nothing. and that summer was ekstra hot that time. over here we have winter now, and my hubby is even complaining that i am too hot, but i know it is no fever. good luck to you.

Debbie, I don't know if you are still about but I had night sweats with my last pregnancy as well, right from the start. It felt wrong to me and I usually have them during my LP as well. I was just looking more up about it and cortisol is a__sociated with night sweats. Someone also mentioned panic attacks and night sweats which is why I looked it up, when your body has been under a lot of stress (different kinds of things can stress different people differently including not eating regular meals) your adrenal glands start producing cortisol instead of adrenaline. Go figure that my acupuncutist said that I've got signs of kidney yang deficiency which fairly translates into adrenal exhaustion.
I lost my pregnancy as well, it stopped developing as my symptoms peaked at 5w4d. I'm so sad and afraid to try again. I'm taking a break to rebuild my blood stores and considering ways to take time off from work next time -- complicated as I own my own business. ((hugs))

Ann...so sorry to hear about your loss! It's devastating, isn't it. Well, I'm trying again and I too took off about a month. I am doing IVF so that means that I've got to give myself shots everyday...uggg... But I too am planning on taking off a week around the time of "implantation". Even after I lost my week old pregnancy, I still had night sweats for several days after that. Of course, I haven't had night sweats for a long while now...wish me luck...
