I am 28 weeks (in my first pregnancy), and I will tell you what I've learned about eating during pregnancy, so far. In the beginning I had nausea (no vomiting), at that point my best advice is to eat as healthy as possible, but I know I was repulsed by most veggies and some protein/meats.....so whatever you can manage in the beginning (if you have sickness). By the time I hit month 4 and started feeling better I craved allot of fruit, veggies (big salads w/ chicken on top), milk, and of course desserts (but try to keep those moderate sized portions). Make sure your meat is cooked well, and I personally make sure the meat I eat is good quality b/c even not being pregnant bad quality meat is not good for you. I would also tell you to make sure you take your prenatal vitamin on a full stomach b/c it makes me feel sick if I take it on a empty/ half empty stomach. Limit your caffiene and sodas (if you are a soda drinker), and keep yourself hydrated. The better you eat.....the better you feel.

Here's what I've learned from the books I've read. Stay away from lozenges, the menthol isn't good for you. Don't drink herbal teas that contain strange unfamiliar ingredients, stay away from deli meats and hot dogs, and unpasteurized/soft cheeses are no good either (brie, camembert, etc.) The only exception here is cream cheese. Fish that contains mercury (red stuff) shouldn't be eaten more than once a month (shrimp is the only example of this I can think of) and stay away from caffeine and aspartame (found often in sugar subst_tutes). I hope this helps!!

my doc said shrimp is ok and caffine is ok as long as it is in moderation. the fish you can eat are the big fish like tile fish, makral, swordfish, etc..... shrimp is actually very good for you, just dont eat it every day. every doctor tells you something different, so if your nor sure, call them. good luck

Yeah, shrimp is a very safe and healthy option whilst pg. Drea is right about the fish you should avoid. Any cheese is okay so long as it says "pasteurized" on the label. Sushi and oysters are out. No more than 300-400mg of caffeine but some is okay. No cheese dip at Mexican restaurants (listeria). Deli meats are okay if you heat them to steaming in the microwave before you eat them.

It has been my impression that deli meats and any meats containing the preservative sodium nitrite/nitrate are unsafe. These include pastrami, smoked ham, bacon, and hot dogs. Lately I've been making sandwiches using cooked roast beef or pork and it's much better than the processed stuff.

Don't eat meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, candy, bread, pasta or anything else edible. Just take your prenatal vitamins & drink a lot of water. That's the only way you'll avoid getting sick from food. ;)

just listen to your body and try to eat as healthy as possible! realistically, eating junk food sometimes isn't going to kill you nor is it going to harm your baby. for the most part, try to eat whole grains and fresh veggies and lean meats but try not to stress out too much over it either. i think the worrying and the stress is worse for the baby than the food is! good luck!
