Has anyone had any good of bad effects from taking ambien? I am 35 weeks pregnant and have lost so much sleep that I'm crying most of the day. I feel so much better after sleeping through the night with the ambien but, don't want to risk any problems.

They put me on Ambien WHILE I was in labor. They kept sending me home because I wasn't 5 cm even though my contractions were 5 min. apart. Ambien worked well for me until I got to 5 cm early .. around 4 am. Then I couldn't sleep even through the medicine. No bad side effects here.

My Dr. said that is is safe to take...but after discussing it with my mom, who is a pharmacists, I am not sure. Ambien is a fairly new drug, and since pregnant women genarally aren't lining up to have drug research done on them, there are no real studies/long term side effects that have been done. So I am not sure...I think it would be safer in the last 2 trimesters.
I am not currently pregant but TTC and have been taking ambien to help me sleep for a few months, so I am not sure what to do??

I was given ambien while in the hospital (went into early labor at 24 wks). The only effect was it made my blood pressure very low. I am of a smaller size so for the next night I cut the dosage in half but it wasn't as effective for my sleep. Can you take tylenol pm? I know it is definitely safe to take or benadryl? That may help you to sleep but make sure you let your doctor know you are taking it. Congrats on your pregnancy!! -L
