I just took a home pregnancy test and discovered that I am pregnant. My husband and I are very excited, but this has come as surprise and I am worried about the effects of my diet and exposure to household cleaners in these early stages. By my calculations, I became pregnant about 3.5 weeks ago. In the last few weeks, I've eaten hot dogs, sushi, and herbal tea. I've used drain cleaner to unclog a drain and the fumes were overwhelming. I'm even concerned about my recent visit to a nail salon. Have I done harm to the baby? This is my first pregnancy and I am freaking out!!!!

Tara, congratulations on your pregnancy. Your concern about your baby demonstrates what a good mom you'll make. I can't imagine that any harm was done. I think our generation takes more precautions with pregancy than those before us. And look how well we turned out! You might find the book "What to Expect when you're expecting" rea__suring. Good luck!

Just stopped in to say Congrats! don't think there was ant harm. The book that Chris recommended is very good, I used it with my first pregnancy, here is another book that is hilarously great! Its called "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy.
