Ok, i know it wasn't 'right' but with my first child i smoked pot up until my last trimester because i didn't know any better. First of all, i would like to say, no he doesn't have any attention problems at three years old, he has advanced problem solving skills and a longer attention span than most children his age. He developed his speech and learned to walk at a very early age, and has never held a crayon like a toddler would, he holds it like he knows how to write (it's really cute), and learned to count to 10 before he was two. We are actually putting him into school early because of his advances. As someone who USED to smoke pot on a regular basis, yes, you can tell if your pot has been laced with other drugs, because different drugs effect you differently, and you can just tell, and although it's uncommon for someone to do that, it does still happen. Children born to healthy mothers also show signs of ADD or ADHD, as well as other attention problems, so it is very hard to tell what, if anything, causes this. I am in no way saying that smoking pot while pregnant is GOOD for you, but i would like to state that i am NOT trash, my child is not retarded, and i really despise the fact that others are so quick to react to something they obviously know nothing about. Medical sites are going to tell you it's bad because they HAVE to, and pro-marijuana sites will tell you it's good because they WANT to. I would also like to state that if it's ok to smoke pot before you get pregnant, or know your pregnant, wouldn't it be the same as smoking during as well because it can take as long as 8 weeks for the metabolites to leave your system as they store themselves in the fat cells and would still be circulating through your system even after a month of not smoking.

You shouldn't even waste your time posting links about this stuff. The people who believe the propaganda are not the type to actually research and isse, but would rather regurgitate something they once heard "they" say.

Out of every post on this whole thread, I appreciate yours the most and agree with you wholeheartedly. While it may not be "right" to smoke weed while pregnant, it is certainly not the worst thing you can do and it does not make you (or me or any of the dozens of other smokers on this post) trash.

So I guess your child is the smartest kid in the cla__s because you smoked pot. Maybe he doesn't have anything wrong with him now but he may in the future. Why would you even risk it? Why would anyone smoke it around a child is beyond me! What if something happened while you were high?

i NEVER said he was the smartest kid in the cla__s BECAUSE i smoked pot. I was merely stating that DESPITE the fact that i smoked pot my son is still very intellegent. I also haven't read a single post on here about smoking around a child. I actually quit smoking all together during my last trimester with him. Besides, hundreds of thousands of people obviously don't see the problem in drinking a beer or gla__s of wine or two infront of their children, despite the possiblity of an emergency arising they wouldn't be fully able to deal with. (and just for the record, i don't do that either!)

MYTH: MARIJUANA USE DURING PREGNANCY DAMAGES THE FETUS. Prenatal marijuana exposure causes birth defects in babies, and, as they grow older, developmental problems. The health and well being of the next generation is threatened by marijuana use by pregnant women.
FACT: Studies of newborns, infants, and children show no consistent physical, developmental, or cognitive deficits related to prenatal marijuana exposure. Marijuana had no reliable impact on birth size, length of gestation, neurological development, or the occurrence of physical abnormalities. The administration of hundreds of tests to older children has revealed only minor differences between offspring of marijuana users and nonusers, and some are positive rather than negative. Two unconfirmed case-control studies identified prenatal marijuana exposure as one of many factors statistically a__sociated with childhood cancer. Given other available evidence, it is highly unlikely that marijuana causes cancer in children.

I am always amazed at the stupidity of certain people...and how just anyone can be parents....it is really sad...but I guess that is why Jerry Springer is still on 15 years later....their kids eventually grow up and realize what selfish parents they had.

I don't know how anyone can stand to argue this issue :P It is insane to think that one side could persuade the other with reference to mj. It's impossible by all standards, like arguing abortion.

I agree how can anyone even argue this issue. Smoking weed or cigarettes or drinking alcohol during pregnancy is just bad period. You are growing a baby and should not do anything to hurt the baby regardless of your personal desires. It is not about you any longer.

My point is that there are different opinions on smoking mj during pregnancy. The facts still remain that there is not conclusive evidence that it is harmful, however, I do not condone giving an innocent child drugs of any form. Regardless of whether the drug is bad for the fetus or not, you are taking the life of the child and using it as a guinea pig for future studies. Although how can we say that a woman has rights to abort, but does not have any other rights to her body. Does this make sense?
Those are 2 completely different issues. The right to abort is different from using drugs while pregnant. If you abort your intention is not to have a baby whether right or wrong. But using drugs knowing you could be harming a baby is just wrong. If there is no good evidence why do doctors say not to smoke pot?
because they have to say that. Whenever in doubt, the doctor's MUST say no to avoid legal liabilities.
