Ultrasound Preparation Filling Your Bladder

Hiya - I'm about to have my first scan and have been instructed by the clinic to drink 3 liters of water four hours before the exam, and not go to the bathroom until the ultrasound is finished. Is this really necessary? How much water has anybody else been told to hold for your ultrasounds? And does the procedure make it hard to hold your bladder? I've heard that they prod your belly with a sensor or something which doesn't sound too good if you're bursting to pee!

with this pregnancy (second) ive been told to drink between 4 and 8 gla__ses of water an hour before my u/sound and to hold it..it helps to empty your bladder before u start drinking. 3 litres 4 hours before sounds excessive to me and would be impssible to hold that much for that long

I have had three ultrasounds - I only had to drink 1liter of water an hour before the did the ultrasound. It's not that bad, you almost forget that you have to pee when you can see your little one on the sreen. Good Luck!
