OK, well Amaya went in this morning for her 4 month check up and shots. She is doing great now. She only cried while on the table and as soon as her daddy picked her up she was fine. She loves her nurse. Anyway, we got the go ahead to start her on cereal! I am so excited. I went and bought some baby spoons today. What spoons are all of you using, and what cereal and baby food brand do you use. I got some Gerber Rice, but we have a sample of Beechnut rice and I like the texture of it better. I got the Tigex soft silicone spoon. It is awesome. Amaya has been chewing on it since it came out of the dishwasher. I also got her a highchair. She looks so cute in it. My baby girl is growing so fast! She weights 15lbs 14 oz, is 25 1/2 inches long, and her head is 16 1/2. She is in the 90th percentile for her weight and length, and the 50th for her head. Its really funny, I swear the shots that she got bother me more than her! Anyway, if you would just let me know what food you are using that would be great! Our doctor told us any brand is fine, it is pretty much up to us on cereal, just keep using enfamil for formula. Thanks guys!

I beleive that when Myia was a baby I used Gerber rice cereal, first plain and then I bought the kind with bannanas in it and she loved it!! Nothing cuter than feeding your baby with a teensy spoon and little bowls!! Glad to hear that she is doing well!!!

Hi Stephanie. My baby is now 5 months but I was as happy and excited as you a month ago when I was told that I could start solids too! I also started with the rice cereal. I had some Gerber samples which I started with and then I bought a box of beech-nut rice cereal which is also good. I have been mixing the cereal with a little bit of fruits to make it taste better. So far he has had: applesauce, bananas, pears and one veggie: carrots. I have a lot of fun feeding him. I for now do it once a day. I think he really likes it! I also bought spoons but the gerber kind. They also have the soft tip. It was a pack of several with different colors that seem to catch his attention. Well see what they tell me next visit at 6 mos. I also have a very bad time with the shots. That's what I think about the most :( But anyway, yes they do grow quickly. Hope you enjoy mealtime as much as I do! :) Let me know how it goes...

I also got the go ahead to start solids at 4 mo. (she wasnt even crabby when she woke up from her first nap after the shots) I started with rice cereal for about a week then I used oatmeal now she will only eat the rice when it is mixed with something. then i started veggies (my friends baby had fruit first and refuses to eat veggies unless muxed with fruit or meat) and then fruit right now i giver her a bottle when she gets up cereal the next meal then veggies followed by either juce or melk then a fruit and a bottle b4 bed she usualy sleeps 12 hours (she was in the 95th percetile for length and 70th for weight) shes always been a big eater and thankfully eats less formula since i switched her to parants choice 2. she also seems to like that soon i wll start meats and desserts

Has anybody ever noticed if when you started solids the babies no longer seem very interested in formula. I guess that's a good thing because formula costs so much but I'm kind of worried about it. He just doesn't drink as much as he used to or he simply refuses it. I know he is probably fuller now with the solids but I'm only doing that once a day. Anybody had this problem?

Amaya still takes formula at least 4 times a day. She is only eating cereal once. She eats 6oz at around 7am, 8oz at noon, 8oz at 5pm and usually 6-8oz around 8:30 after she eats cereal. She actually seems to like her formula more to me because the rice is so bland tasting.

Jadyns Mommy - September 14

Jadyn had her 4 month shots today and after reading your post, I was so hoping her Dr would give her the go ahead for cereal and she did! Yay!! She now weighs 14.8 lbs and is 25.5 inches long and 16 1/3 head. The Dr said that she had to do well for 2-3 weeks on her rice cereal before I could start her on fruits and veggies. How much cereal should I start her off with each day and do you mix it with formula or juice? And how much? Her Dr gave me so much info and I usually have a pen and paper to write it all down but I was holding her from the shots and wasnt able to.

star off with a tbsp. amke it really runny gradually add more cereal and make it thicker then start with veggies or baby might not eat them becouse the fruits are sweeter

I use the scoop that is in the formula can to get rice out of the bag. I use one scoop of the rice and then just add formula. (I make the bottle as I am making the rice, she eats the bottle right after) I didnt start off by making mine runny, I started off with the consistancy of like ummm... pudding I guess. I tried to do it runny but I couldnt keep it in the spoon, keep her hands down, and make sure the bowl of food didnt fall over, so I made it a little thicker. Her ped. told us not to give juice until at least 6 months but try to hold off til 9months. She said only give prune juice when she goes more than 2 days without a bm. Anyway, she is loving the rice! It is so much fun.

Tahlia's Mama - September 15

I gave Tahlia Heinz rice cereal, and she loved it. I've given her potato and pumpkin, and she's getting the hang of swallowing something that isn't her milk! Next will be carrots, then some stewed fruit. It IS so much fun getting her to eat like a grown up!
