Baby Stung By Bee 0

My 22 month old was stung by a bee this afternoon and it scared the h__l out of me. My husband's grandfather was stung by a bee and was dead within a half hour. The bee was floating in the pool and he picked it up. It was still alive and stung him on the tip of his finger. Poor baby cried for a long time. My husband took out the stinger but it bothered him for a long time. I tried making paste out of baking soda and water but he kept trying to shake it off. Hopefully it will never happen again, but does anyone know of anything that relieves the stinging feeling besides ice and baking soda? Has anyone ever had a child not have a reaction the first time they were stung and have one the second time. I know.....I am nuerotic. Thanks guys :0)

Not to freak you out but that is how most develop the allergy. They are stung once and get sensitised and the next time is the bad one. I've been stung a couple of times as a kid and never had any problems. Just teach him to be cautious around bees from now on (as if you have to now...) and maybe ask your doctor what you should do for any possible future stings.

Thanks P, I heard something along those lines about allergies. I am so afraid of something happening to him. I need to relax. I drive myself nuts.

I'm the same way. I'm trying to keep it to myself though. My daughter doesn't need to suffer cause her mother is mental!! lol

Polysporin now makes a cream just for kids it has a numbing agent in it try that to relive the sting they use it on kids before they peirce there ears.

My baby doesn't pay but my husband does. lol Thanks Kerry. I will have to get some. I don't think that I could have used it this time though because it was on his fingertip and his hand are in his mouth all the time. Such a small amount probably wouldn't have done any harm anyway. See what I mean? I am the mother of all mental cases. :0)

OK, I know you are going to think I am nuts, but this is what I have always been told, put tobacco on it. Get a little tobacco wet and put on the area that was stung, then if need be cover with a bandaid. I know it sounds crazy, but I am from Arkansas and that is what my grandparents have always told us. I have never been stung on the hand, but I was stung on my arm and they used it on me. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/bio99/bio99482.htm you can go to that website and read a little about it.

it is true about the tobacco, it instantly takes the sting away. i know myself from experience.

Wow, that is good to know. I never would have come up with that one on my own. Sometimes stuff like that works better than anything you buy at the store. Thanks ladies

My father is deathly allergic to bee stings and my brother is also. Ive been stung many times and each time is different for me. Sometimes I have a bad reaction where I swell up like a baloon and other times nothign happens except that pain. We had a wasp fly into the car and I freaked out and jumped into the back seat as we were driving to "save" my daughter from a possiable sting. Im also worried that if she is sitting there with her mouth open a fly with fly in and choke her- am I crazy or what lol? Right now we are trying to come up with safe way to deal with a possiable flea problem thanks to our housemates dog! I have not found any fleas on our cat but I did see flea dirt so he is getting a bath then treated but Im worried that the flea stuff that goes down there back will harm her if he rubs it on anythign that me touch like our bed or somthing.
