Baby Won T Eat Cereal

My doctor gave me the green light on feeding my little girl rice cereal. (she'll be 4 mo. next week). The problem is, she won't eat it! She's very interested in "adult" food, she tries to grab everything we put in our mouth and he tongue reflex is pretty much gone. But when we try to give her cereal, she either starts screaming, won't open her mouth or she will literally spit it back at us. I asked my doc about it thinking she may not be ready, but he said she's definately ready (bottles aren't holding her over anymore, she's doubled her birth weight, she can sit in the high chair unsupported, she acts interested in food in general). I can't figure out what the problem is. Is it possible my baby just doesn't like rice cereal? Is it ok to try another kind of cereal?

if your baby is only 4 months, then he/she doesnt really 'Need' to eat cereal yet... my daughter 5.5 months ate it, but then had a horrible upset stomache for about 2 days .... when your baby is ready they will let you know, maybe try again in 2 weeks or so...

I personally think a four month old baby is TOO young to eat cereal. A baby can live off of formula and b___st milk the first year of life. I started my son on baby food/cereals at 5 1/2 months and he wasn't too thrilled. Once he started watching me eat, he'd try to grab at my food and I realized that that was the best time to start him on his own foods which was 6/12 months. Babys go at their own pace, my son is now 9 months and he is doing perfectly with baby food, he doesn't even make the messes anymore like he used to when he didn't want the food. Mothers have instincts, go by what you think is right, you know your baby better than the doctor (even though a dr. has had years of medical school). Maybe wait another month or two or let your baby watch you eat.

Sorry, I didn't read your post fully. So your daughter is interested in your food. Maybe the consistency of the cereal is too thick or thin...maybe you can add flavor to it, or maybe she just doesn't like the taste. Maybe give her more formula or try juices.

Add a little spoon ful of baby food banannas or other fruit to it. It will make it taste better for her.
