Hello everyone! I'm from Eastern-Europe living in Canada, 34 weeks pregnant. My Mom doesn't want me to leave the house with my newborn until 6 weeks old - she sais it's too risky for the baby, because of infections, etc. I don't agree with her, but I want to know others' opinion.

I took my daughter on a walk when she was five or six days old. (She was born in July) I don't see any reason in the world why you would not be able to leave the house for six weeks. Also, your baby is going to have to have it's two week check up at the doctor's office. It is impossible to not take your child out of the house. Disagree with you mom on this one and take your baby out.

Take the baby out just don't let strangers touch it and wash your hands frequently. The germs the child could get are most ikely coming from peoples hands so carry sanitizer and enjoy time out. I personally would get cabin fever if I was in for that long.

I'm in Canada too and it is getting warmer these days but here anyways, it is still rather chilly especially for a new born. So, I think you should really wrap baby up in a nice warm snuggly or something like that, be sure the head is covered with a hat as babies loose alot of heat that way. Then enjoy your walk! I've been doing it every day since it has started getting warmer. Hope this helps. Ps. you can always check the cheeks to see if they are cold, good indication if it's too cold the baby.

when i had my first baby i stopped at target on my way home to get a baby monitor. of course you can take baby out. there have been studys that say a new born is at it's peak of immunity right after birth. i've always taken mine out and they have never gotten sick.

I think we shouldn't isolate them. Take them out, enjoy the world. It will help build immunity. Good luck!

Your mom is partially right. You can certainly bring the baby out, but should avoid closed areas with many people present (public transit, dept stores etc). Babies have a hadrer time fighting infections when they are that young, so you want a newborn to be exposed to it as little as possible. A stroll in the park though is not only allowed, but good for the baby.
