HOW MUCH CRYING IS NORMAL FOR A 2 WEEK OLD? SEEMS LIKE WHEN SHE ISN'T EATING OR SLEEPING SHE IS CRYING. I AM b ___stFEEDING SO IM TRYING TO STAY AWAY FROM PASIFIERS, BUT ITS REALLY HARD I JUST WANT TO GIVE IN AND GIVE HER ONE. WHEN IS IT OK TO TRY ONE, OR DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Two weeks is when the babies start their crying the most. Does it happen more at night? We tried pacifiers but my daughter would just toss them after 5 seconds. If she takes one go for it; there are some who claim that pacifiers are bad, but I haven't seen a convincing case against pacifiers. As far as crying goes, the book "the happiest baby on the block" by Harvey Karp helped us A LOT.

BTW, she may be hungy. The first few weeks we had to supplement with formula and things improved a lot after that.

Hi Heather, at 2 weeks, I dont think there would be any problems with a pacifier. As long as you start to wean them before they get too old. Babies like to suck so if a pacifier will help, I say go ahead. My daughter would not take one but I did have a very small teething ring that I was going to give her later but for some reason she liked sucking on the edge of that while I held it even at 2-3 weeks old. So if she wont take a pacifier, just try other things with her like singing and walking or taking her for a drive to see if that calms her. Every baby has different things that soothe them, you just have to experiment to find it. Good luck and remember, it will get better!!!

Have you tried giving her gas drops? She might have a tummy ache.

I usually cry when I need something. I often cry because I am hungry, but also if I'm tired, wet, ga__sy, too hot or too cold, or just lonely. Sometimes I cry just to hear myself cry. I know it can be frustrating to hear me cry but please never shake me. Shaking can cause brain damage, blindness, paralysis or even my death. Here are some ways you can soothe me when I am crying: Feed me, even if I just ate. I may be hungry again and I need to feed often when I am growing. Or talk to me quietly and softly. Touch my skin and ma__sage my arms and legs. Hold my arms against my chest. Swaddle me with a blanket. Cradle me in your arms and rock me. Bicycle my legs. If you are concerned that I may be crying too much, talk to my doctor, or our community health nurse!

Mommy, I can cry to tell you I am hungry, tired, uncomfortable, in pain or lonely. Dont worry, you will learn to recognize my different cries. But be patient. It just may take some time for us to understand eachother!

Oops, one more thing! I like to suck for pleasure and to release tension, not just to get food. So I would enjoy a pacifier, if you'll let me!

THANK YOU FOR THE SUGGESTIONS, I DID TRY THE GAS DROPS AND BOY WHAT A DIFFERANCE. SHE ACTUALLY WAS COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO NAP AFTER A FEEDING FOR 2 HOURS. IS THE GAS FROM SOMTHING IM EATING? I TRY TO STAY VERY BLAND. I FEEL I AM MORE STRICT WITH WHAT I EAT NOW THAN WHEN I WAS PREG. ALSO I WANT TO ADD I WOULD NEVER SHAKE MY PRECIOUS LITTLE ONE I COULDNT EVER GET THAT FUSTURATED! AND THE PACIFIER THING, IM SO NERVOUS CAUSE IVE HEARD AND READ ALL THE NEGATIVE THINGS OF IT WITH BREASTFEEDING BRFORE 1 MONTH OF AGE. HOPEFULLY THE GAS DROPS DOES THE TRICK.

I mention shaking babies to those that have thoughts of frustration and anxiety. I know that not all Mommies think like this, but just wanted to let everybody know why it can hurt me. Its okay to give me a pacifier before a months age. It soothes me. I am a new baby, and I need the comfort. I'd suck on my fingers, but I dont know where they are yet!
