Expiry Date On Formula

I am br___t feeding and formula feeding, therefore I don't go through a lot of formula. I just opened a tin of powdered formula (Goodstart), but when I was away, my husband could not find it and opened another one. On the tin it says that the formula must be used within a month of opening. There is no way we will go through that much formula. Is there a way to re-seal this formula, or go beyond the month guideline . I will probably use all of it in 2-3 months. Please help. Formula is Expensive !!!!

I bet there's a number on the can that you can call and ask. They may know of something you can do, like freezing it or something. If there's nothing to do with it, maybe you can give it to a friend who's using formula exclusively, so it doesn't go to waste.

They sell (although I don't know where) premeasured packets of formula. You just pop one open when you need it and there is no waste! smart no? I saw it with Enfamil, maybe other companies have it too.

Thanks for the responses. There is a number on the back of the tin. I would have never thought to look. I will call and post the answer, in case someone else has the same problem. Pre measured packets are such a good idea. Where can I find them. I live in Canada, so some of our stores are different. Thanks for the help.

I just got off the phone with a very nice lady from Goodstart. She told me that when the formula hits the air, it takes a month for the formula to lose some of its nutritional value. She recommended not to ude it after a month. I did get on their GoodStart program, and she is sending me a small tin of omega 3 and 6 formula to use. That makes me feel a little better about the whole situation. She also told me that food banks won't accept the formula, so I will have to see if any of my friends are using this brand and give it to them. I refuse to throw it out!!!!

I had forgotten all about the premeasured packets. I had some sample packets when my daughter was born. I couldn't b___stfeed, and the little tubes were too expensive with as much as she ate, but they'd be perfect for occasional feedings. They were in the formula aisle at the store, in a box rather than a can. They're good to take on outings, along with little 8oz bottled waters to mix the formula.
