at what age do children usually say there first word?

my baby said mama when she was 6 months and daddy at almost 7. i guess it depends on the baby,

thanks, my son is 4 months old and the way he cried almost sounds like hes sayin mom! I know hes not but it made me wonder!

Ashley-me too! I would swear my daughter has yelled MAMA since she was a few months old. My husband hears it, too, when she gets really mad. I suppose she has justed figured out that it is a sound that gets quick results...

That is where the term "MaMa" came from...when babies cry it sounds like they're saying, "Mama". In most languages there is a common name for mother which sounds like either ma, mum, mom, or mama. So, from birth most babies say mama first. :) Asjani started saying dada at 5 1/2 months and she now knows that that's the name for my husband.

oh thank god. I thought I was losing my mind!!! I dont think hes saying mom or mama but I swear it sounds like.

Yeah, I posted on the other first word site that my 12 wk old sounds like he is saying ma as well. It is the coolest sound. Hey Toya, thanx for the info. That sounds pretty cool.
