My 8 week old loves things that light up. He likes music stuff too, but not so much yet! His Grandma got him a rattle that you velcro to his wrist, and he must think its neat, because when he has it on, he makes the cutest faces. His favorite toy has to be a tiny bear that my friend got from FAO Shwarz. I have never felt anything softer, and he could stare at it for hours!

I have a Fisher Price kick and play piano that hangs in the crib. My daughter's only four weeks, but she already likes to watch the lights and listen to the music. Most baby toys have a suggested age on the package, so you can use that as a guideline too. My older daughter's favorite toys when she was really little were things that had mirrors and played music.

You could try a play gym that have things hanging, you could try mirrors, wrist rattles, etc. Amaya started playing with her gym when she was about that old.

KH, good gquestion! My daughter's favorite toy has been "Peek a Boo Rattle by Infantino", http://snipurl.com/ho9j the duckie one. She doesn't care about the frog. Don't ask me why, but I can even distract her long enough to get her to finish her bottle. Someone got us the "Gymini Total Playground by Tiny Love", but she only kicks those toys as the coordination to touch them is at least a month away. We're clueless as to the next stage toys though....
