My son is 6 weeks old and is fussy after feedings. It's not every feeding just late in the mornings and evernings. I'm bottle feeding him. He will suck real hard on the nipple only to spit it out and cry. He will arch his back and his stomach is hard. He feeds great in the night and early afternoons. He's not constipated. He isn't spitting up all that much. Any advice?

Try a different bottle, maybe he is sucking too hard and not enough is coming out. I wouldnt go up on the nipple size but maybe just try a different bottle.

Well, if we're taking guesses he also maybe tired/overstimulated, hungry and sleepy at the same time. Also often with our daughter, when she needs a diaper change, she'll do the same. We change her, the fussiness goes away and she completes her meal.

my son does the same thing, my son has mild reflux. when they have reflux they tend to spit up, arch their backs and spit up. but i think my son sometimes acts this way because he is fighting sleep. you should ask his ped. just in case.

monica, thanks for your advice. Is your son on anything for the reflux. The ped. has me giving my son zantac three times a day. It doesn't seem to be working though. Is your son fussy after feedings? Are you putting cereal in his milk? Does your son have problems laying on his back?

sounds like your son has been already diagnosed. How long has he been on Zantac? usually it takes over a week for it work. My son is not a candidate for any medication. All I am doing is putting cereal on a couple of his bottles before he goes to sleep. That helps him with spit up. He is fussy during feedings and after feedings but not with every single bottle. He use to hate being on his back but not anymore. Now he hates being on his stomach.
