My Newborn Has A Rash All Over

My baby boy is just a week old. He has had red spots scattered everywhere that have little white bumps in the centers since he was born. The hospital staff told me not to worry, they will go away and they don't bother him. They bother me though and its seems that while some go away new ones form. Has anyone else ever seen this on their baby? How long before it is gone?

It's called melia or baby acne. My daughters showed up at three weeks and they went away aftyer a couple of weeks. I read they can come and go up til six months. They don't seem to bother the babies but they sure don't look pretty do they? Keep your sons face dry and if you have to wash it with a very mild soap one a day only. Wipe up any spit up or spilled formula immediately because this causes irritation and makes it look worse. It's caused by hormones the baby gets a dose of before or during birth.

Hi, my baby has baby acne also, it started on her forehead and is now spreading to her chest, the ones on her forehead are starting to clear up. The doctor told us it can take a couple of months or so to clear up so just be patient. Good luck and if you do hear of anything that works on getting rid of it, LET ME KNOW!

Don't worry, my baby had the same. He started out with a pretty bad case of baby acne in the checks at about 2 weeks old and now (2 mos old) his face has cleared up but if he gets upset or rubs his face it seems to flare up again and then it goes away again. I have also noticed some on his body as well. It seems like when one area clears up, I see it somewhere else but in general it does get better everytime and appear less and less. I know, I can't help but noticing it either even though everybody tells me the the same :) the length that it can lasts I guess varies but like I said it does get better, you'll see...

My baby was covered in this, and was bright red for a week following birth. The rach cleared after a couple of weeks, and the acne was gone after 1 month.

Thanks everyone. E, I think my baby has the same rash yours had. I don't think what my baby has is the baby acne. I heard the get that from the hormones in the v____al ca___l and it appears between 2-3 weeks. My baby was born with his rash and I had a c-section. I do really appreciate the feedback though. I think his skin is starting to clear up. He is now 12 days old.

I also had a c section, and my baby had both a rash and the acne. I am glad to hear that it is clearing. It made me feel so awful to see my newborn that color. Gone were the birth announcements! Like I would send out pics of him looking like that... Poor little guy:)
