Wow, thanx for the info Nick. My son has been coined the spit-up king bc he does it so well. I will look into that. Glad to hear that they were able to detect the problem in your son and take care of it.

My son ended up having pyloric stenosis also. His dr thought it was severe reflux, but it turned out to be PS and needed surgery immediately. Thanks for starting this thread, I was actually on my way of doing it myself. BTW, this happens more in male babies than female and it happens in every 1 out of 400 babies.

How to tell if it is PS or just severe reflux? Did the doctor try Zantax before deciding on surgery? What did they do in the surgery? Zack throws up sometimes and very randomly. He is now on Zantax.

My doctor also thought it was reflux, but sent us to the children's hospital for a sonogram just to rule things out. They gave him a bottle of water during the sonogram and watched to see how it went through his digestive system. When it tried to empty out into the stomach, the muscle that led to the small intestine was too tight to let very much of the water through. The doctor said that the formula builds up in his stomach until it has to come out and so he throws up. They fix it through laparoscopy surgery. The doctor cut the muscle on both sides in order to relax it and allow more food to flow through. He had surgery November 3rd and you cannot even tell he had it, except that he is a much happier baby.

My son also had Pyloric Stenosis. He was throwing up a little bit at first, so his doctor had us switch formula a few different times, but that didnt help. I thought he may have had PS but she didnt think so, because when the doctors pushed on his stomach they didnt feel a little ball. When he was about 4 weeks old, I called his doctor because I was scared, he wasnt having dirty diapers and he looked very skinny...(he was 9 pounds at birth) she had me bring him to the ER, they did some tests and an ultrasound and they suggested he had PS and sent us directly to the Children's hospital (1hour away) they did tests and an ultrasound and said yeah he had PS. He got down to 7pounds, his doctor didnt seem to care. I had looked on the internet to try to figure out what was wrong with him, and I determined it was PS, not reflux. He threw up after each feeding, and it was projectile vomit, not just a little bit. He had his surgery on October 7th, he was 4 weeks old. He is now 11 weeks old and he is great. They put a little curved cut above his belly b___ton, and sliced the muscle inside a little. He has a little scar, but the surgeon says it will probably fade away, that is why he cut it curved, to make it blend in. I was scared, they wouldnt let him eat for 3 days, he was dehydrated and needed his electrolytes higher, before he could get the surgery, that took about 24 hours or so. We were in the hospital for 3 days before he got the surgery, but left the day after. Now I am happy that my son is ok and happy, oh, he weighs about 13 pounds now.

I am woried about this with my son. He has been spitting up more and more. Took him to the doc today (not our usual doc) and she did not seem concerned about it since he is gaining weight so well and pooping pretty frequently. I am going to ask his regular doc about it on Thursday.
