My 3 month old will not sleep unless he is swaddled and I'm afraid to put him on his tummy. any thoughts?

Our daughter was the same. The past two nights she slept unswaddled and through them. (falling asleep is still a battle so don't envy us). You can try getting him used to unswaddling sleep on the weekend, or leave one arm out (interchanging) and see if he gets better. Does he still have the moro reflex?

Since my 2 month old barely sleeps, I would say let him sleep however he is comfortable as long as he is sleeping. My son still has the moro reflex and startles himself all the time, but I have swaddled and tried and tried, but he freaks out and can get out of the tightest of swaddles. I wish he could be swaddled. I would do it til he was two if it got us all some sleep! But that is just my opinion. I hear swaddling with one arm out, and eventually both arms out helps break them of that. I personally would let my son sleep on his tummy if he could, but his belly hurts due to acid reflux, I just believe babies sleep better with the pressure on their tummy and that generally healthy infants are not at anymore risk of sids on their bellies than not. I am not a doctor, so no negative comments, just my personal view

yes, he has the reflex still. He does get one arm out occasionally and still sleeps the same roughly. He sleeps between 5-6 hours and then 2-3. BBK, he is only 5 days younger than yours. I go to bed when he does around 8:30 or 9 and he's up for the day at 5ish. It's really getting to me. I'm not a morning person at all. Only a few weeks til I can give Colin rice cereal, so hopefully that will be filling him (I may give it to him before his last b/f of the night.

That's actually pretty good KH. It won't be long now before he sleeps later. Anna wakes up for brief periods of time at night. She still has the moro reflex but not as bad since she moved to her crib. Everything I've read about rice-cereal-helping-baby-sleep states it's an old wives tale; primarily sleep paterns improve regardless at about the time people start the cereal, but who knows! I may change my mind if we do it and it works! :-)

KH your baby will not get out of his swaddle with the miracle blanket. I give my son cereal on his last bottle but its only for his reflux... it does not fill him up the whole night. on the average he sleeps from 8 to 2 eats back to sleep until 6 eats and back to sleep and up for the day around 8. He use to get swaddled with the miracle blanket but up until last week one night I just put him to be without it and he slept the same amount of time. So no more swaddling for my baby.
