I live by the beach and I love it! My baby is due May 31st. Does anyone know how long I have to wait before i can have him in the sun and water. How long before it is safe to use sunblock on his skin?

I live near the beach also. I was told that infant sun block could be used when my son was 6 months old. I was also told not to have him in the sun for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time. They have neat little tents that you can buy to bring to the beach. It protects them from sun, wind, and sand. Good Luck :0)

So I have to wait until he is 6 months before sun exposure. I will look into getting a tent to protect him, thanks for your response. How about the heat? Will it be easy to tell when he is too hot?

if you are hot, then baby is probably hot. i'd keep baby out of direct sunlight for as long as possible, at least untill it's safe to use sun screen. that doesn't mean you have to treat him like a little vampire, a little sun won't hurt him, just be careful with how much exposure he gets. as for getting in the water, it's best to wait untill after the umbillical stump is fully healed. after that it depends on the water, some beaches are cleaner than others. your doctor or the local parks and recreation can advise you on water conditions. i had my babies in the water at about 3 months, around the time they mastered holding their heads up.

My baby is 2 1/2 months old. I just took her to te beach and she loved it. She didn't get sick at all.I have a playyard with a canopy. I put her in there and she slept for a while. She did great. I also took her in the pool when she was 6 weeks old. She liked that too.
