ok, here goes- a week or two after the baby was born i started having a problem with constipation. i've never really have much of a problem before, not even while i was pregnant. but i've been having problems going for the past couple weeks now and i have no idea what to do, i've tried metamucil and stool softeners with little to no results. it's very painful for me to go and i bleed a bit which makes me think i tore something. i have no idea if this is a post-partum problem or just a me problem. any suggestions on what to do?

I'm not too embara__sed to post my name. I suffered from constipation before pregnancy, but it definitely got worse during and after pregnancy. I recommend Milk of magnesia, because it does not make me sick to my stomach, and it does not cause you to go from one extreme to the other either. A lot of laxatives do. A LOT of water, fiber, fruits and veggies and stool softeners are the only things that work for me. I too, have had hemhoroids and bleeding. You may want to see a doc if it persists. They prescribe me strong creme. I had a thrombosed hemhroid removed surgically at 33 weeks pregnant. So it is important to get the issue resolved before you end up like me. I let it go too long. It may be a result of having a baby if this is new for you. Good luck! And it is not uncommon at all.

hey, i had the same problem. When i had my daughter i was scared to go poop right after because I thought it might hurt or i didnt want to tear anymore. Anyways i finally went 4 days after i had her and it was soo painful, stool softner didnt work. Anyways I had that problem everytime i went to the bathroom for mo. I really didnt seek help for it, but when i went to the docs for my 6 wk apt. and they checked if i had hemoroid both inside and outside and turns out i didnt. I just suggest checking with doctor to see if you have any hemoroids and drinking lots of water and maybe taking a fiber supplement. Good luck!

I had this same problem so I asked my husband to get me some stool softner from the drugstore. He brought "it" home and I took it immediately. I didn't have any relief in a couple of hours so I took another pill. Within two hours, it hit and I soon realized it wasn't a stool softner-it was a LAXATIVE!!!! Ooooppppssss. I have never pooped so much in all my life. My stomach cramped and every time I ate I had to run to the bathroom. This last for about two days. We laugh about it now, but at the time I was pretty mad at my husband for buying the wrong thing and at me for not looking more closely at the package.

PRUNES! They work great. Better than anything you will buy in a bottle. Also eat more fiber by increasing your consumption of fruit and whole grains. Popcorn is a really good one for this. Whole wheat bread and oatmeal are also very good choices.

This happened to me as well. It still happens on occasions. It's a real pain in the a__s. Could it be something to do with b___st feeding, or does it happen to formula feeders too? I try to drink lots of water and eat more fruit.
